About Jeanne Elinor Karison:

Though she is presently a faculty member at Roanoke-Chowan Community College, Dr. Karison's beginnings in the field of education were humble, having started out as an elementary school teacher. This would be the starting point of a progressive series of positions through which she would increase her learning and skill in the classroom. In her earliest roles, she became the director of a local teacher-friend program, and she also served as the principal of a local high school.

Dr. Karison completed her Ph.D. while working full time as a teacher at Auburn University. After receiving that degree, she went on to teach at Alabama State University, and she also managed the university's early childhood education program. In her current role, she works in the English department, teaching students to read and write at the college level. As an educator, she feels that her greatest challenge is ensuring that her lessons are appropriate for students of all levels of aptitude, so that those that are more advanced do not lose interest, and those who are behind do not fall farther behind.
