Tate Law Offices PC Offers Driving Safety Scholarships to Raise Awareness of Risks of Distracted Driving

    DALLAS, TX, October 05, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The attorneys at Tate Law Offices PC have created the Driving Safety Scholarship to help students pursue their education goals and focus attention on the dangers of distracted driving, a safety issue that affects many young people in Texas and throughout the nation.

Tate Law Offices PC will award three scholarships to students who are high school juniors or seniors or are enrolled in two-year or four-year colleges in the United States. The amounts of the scholarships are $1,500 for first place, $1,000 for second place and $500 for third place.

To apply for a scholarship, applicants should submit an original 500-word essay discussing how they have been personally affected by distracted driving and what steps local, state and federal leaders should take to reduce crashes caused by distracted driving without overly restricting personal freedoms.

More than 3,100 people were killed and 431,000 people were injured in crashes involving distracted drivers in 2014, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation. Young drivers in particular are affected. Ten percent of all drivers ages 15 to 19 who were involved in fatal accidents were reported to be distracted at the time of the crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
