Free Goal-Setting Course for the Highly Sensitive Person

Pillars of a Balanced Life: an Introduction to Goal-Setting for the Highly Sensitive Person is a free four-week course by Authenticity Coaching, designed for the person who is high in sensory-processing sensitivity.

The highly sensitive person usually needs to adapt advice given to others regarding goal-setting to what works best for them.

ASHEVILLE, NC, October 24, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Being highly sensitive, or high in sensory-processing ability, is a trait common to 20% of men and women of all ethnicities. MRI studies show that they process information and images longer and over greater areas in the brain. Their more observant nervous system usually inclines them to be conscientious, compassionate, and able to notice details and see solutions that others overlook.

Being high in sensitivity does not mean being overly sensitive or temperamental. In fact, HSPs are more often cooperative and empathetic. They grow up in a world dominated by the non-sensitive, an experience much like being left-handed in a right-handed world. The highly sensitive person usually needs to adapt advice given to others regarding goal-setting to what works best for them.

The first three learning modules in the mini-course are sent via email, skipping Thanksgiving week. The fourth week participants will meet with the instructor in a teleconference November 30, from 7 - 8pm ET (4 - 5pm PT).

Instructor Celeste O'Brien is an HSP coach and an experienced instructor who says "the HSP often has considerable unfulfilled potential. No one has taught them their value in the world."

The first week looks at authentic goals and sustainable actions, action vs. learning goals, external vs. internal motivation, needs vs. wants, past successes, individual character strengths, and completion of the Six Ways Success Looks Different for the HSP worksheets.

The second week asks the participant to compare their experience with that of HSPs generally, completing the Three Reasons Goal-Setting May Not Work for the HSP and Five Key Goal-Setting Strategies for the HSP worksheets.

In week three they will complete Pillars of a Balanced Life worksheets rating their satisfaction with life's various domains--relationships, work, health, finances, etc.

If they've done the wheel of life self-assessment before, this can be a great refresher...with an HSP spin...letting them know what they've accomplished and highlighting what comes next.

In week four the group meets by teleconference. Topics are wishing vs. mental contrasting, the HSP version of SMARTEST goals, avoiding over-commitment, the job "sweet spot," and six ways to painlessly increase self-control.

This provides an HSP perspective and includes recommendations from HSP researcher Dr. Elaine Aron and positive psychologists Drs. Robert Biswas-Diener, Ben Dean, Heidi Grant Halvorsen, Carol Dweck, Tal Ben-Shahar, Emily von Sonnerberg, and Gabriele Oettinger.
