HOUSTON, TX, October 25, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- With the number of female veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD on the rise, Keli Chevalier - who's been there - is aiming to lower that statistic and the number of women who served who are now homeless.
On Friday, November 18, 2016, Chevalier is blending her love of fashion with her philanthropy to host the Boots and Ball Gowns Gala starting at 7:00 p.m. at 1940's Air Terminal Museum, William P. Hobby Airport, 8325 Travelair St. Proceeds will benefit Trauma to Triumph, a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit Chevalier founded in 2012 to help female veterans and other women suffering from PTSD overcome the trauma and reclaim their lives. Trauma to Triumph offers counseling (Patriot Empowerment), career training (Patriot Institute) and a safe place to live (Patriot Village) while they recover.
Boots and Ball Gowns Gala has a goal to raise $100,000 to build 10 Tiny homes for homeless female veterans living in the Houston area. Sponsor packages are also available for brand promotion throughout the night at ladyvetsrock.com.
Chevalier, who served in the U.S. Army for 15 years, earning the rank of 1st lieutenant, struggled with PTSD and anxiety disorder for years following a 2010 attack involving a car bomb while serving in Iraq. The impact tore through her spine, and she required reconstructive surgery with metal rods and pins. After overcoming her own fear and anxiety, Chevalier wanted to help other women, including victims of domestic and sexual violence, overcome PTSD. Like Chevalier, there are women who additionally suffered sexual assault by a fellow soldier or commanding officer while serving their country.
"One thing we teach women with PTSD in our program is that they need a space to be authentically themselves and to feel like the person they were before the traumatic event," says Chevalier. "That includes feeling beautiful and elegant."
1940's Air Terminal Museum is known for hosting spectacular and luxe events. The theme of the night is Boots and Ball Gowns and attendees are asked to wear boots of any kind with their dress (women) or with their blazers ( men). The boots represent the many combat boots on the ground serving today all over the world. There will be awards for our most giving guests. Opportunities to donate are vast including a silent and live auction. Guests will enjoy a walk on the red carpet experience, complete with paparazzi, and reserved table seating.
A decadent dinner, wine, hors d'oeuvres and dessert bites will be served throughout the night. Tickets for $100 (General); $50 (Veterans); are available at http://CLK.IM/LP6W. For sponsorship information, you can contact Ms Rivers at (516) 744-0171
