Women of Distinction Magazine Selects Jacqueline Dansby as a Distinguished Professional in Her Field

    SAN ANTONIO, TX, October 26, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jacqueline Dansby, Executive Director of the Upward Bound Pre-College Program at St. Mary's University, has been recognized as a Distinguished Professional in her field through Women of Distinction Magazine. Jacqueline Dansby was previously featured in a 2014 edition of Women of Distinction for her work in education.

Known by many undergraduate students and fellow personnel as a very dedicated and talented Adjunct Professor of Social Psychology and Group Dynamics at St. Mary's University, who has also been known to participate in various grant writing and funding on campus and the design of many educational programs, Jacqueline Dansby has dedicated nearly 50 years to the field of education thus far. Never taking education lightly, Dansby graduated from high school as Salutatorian before she began working toward her BA with a double major in Mathematics and Chemistry and simultaneously tutoring students in St. Mary's Upward Bound Program in mathematics and science. Completing her degree in just three years, she continued to tutor while juggling the MA in Educational Psychology program at the University of Texas-San Antonio followed by the Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Administration program at Texas A&M University-College Station. Never closing the door to the Upward Bound Pre-College Program, Dansby eventually became their full-time Assistant Director, Director, and now Executive Director.

The Upward Bound Pre-College Program helps high school students become better prepared to succeed in college. Offered a very nurturing environment for which to learn, they are located on the college campus, extending numerous educational advantages to those that attend.

"Upward Bound's successful impact results from personalized instruction and guidance by instructors and staff members who care and communicate well with students," Dansby said. "The program, which is small in class size, encourages student involvement while offering a wealth of support. Students who complete this program have been shown to be four times more likely to go on to earn a four-year degree than those students from similar backgrounds that do not participate. It's has been so successful and I am so proud to have been a part of this preparatory program for as long as I have."

Dansby's personal commitment to Upward Bound and other TRIO Programs has extended her dedication to having served as President of the Texas Association of Student Assistance Programs as well as Board Member of the Southwest Association of Student Assistance Program, and the Council for Opportunity in Education.

Active in her community, Dansby has served as President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of SA 100, a non-profit organization made up of a variety of female professional leaders from a wide range of industries. Impressively, she also served as President and Chair of the Board of Directors of the San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame. She was inducted into the San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame in the category of Higher Education. She also served as a Presenter for WE LEAP (WEllness, Leadership, Ethics, Applied economics, and Professionalism), a program that was implemented by the Patient Institute in San Antonio to prepare future physicians and other healthcare professionals to become more effective caregivers and advocates for their patients. During her service as the South Central Regional Director of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Dansby provided leadership to more than 100 graduate and undergraduate chapters throughout Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, and New Mexico, as well as having served on the organization's Board of Directors.

Earning numerous awards throughout her career, including a Dr. Alice Wright Franzke Feminist Award, Marianist Heritage Award, National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development's Teaching and Leadership Excellence Award, and Dr. Walter O. Mason Award, Dansby was also named to the Gamma Delta Phi National Honor Society Educator's Hall of Fame and was recognized for exemplary service to the community by the Lambda Beta Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma International Honor Society. Notably, Dansby is an alumna of Leadership America and Leadership Texas.
