Karl Truman Law Office Reaches Settlement in OB/GYN Sexual Assault Case

    LOUISVILLE, KY, October 25, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Karl Truman Law Office announced Tuesday that principal attorney Karl Truman has settled a lawsuit against Dr. Paul Kelty, a former gynecologist in Southern Indiana who billed himself "The Female Specialist." Truman filed suit against Kelty in January 2015 on behalf of a patient who suffered sexual abuse during a medical examination at his private office.

Truman overcame two motions for dismissal by Kelty's lawyers prior to reaching the settlement. Though the terms are confidential, the attorney said that his client feels she was able to "see justice done and hold [Kelty] accountable" for his mistreatment and abuse of her trust as a patient.

"I could see the pain of what she went through in suffering at the hands of a trusted medical provider," the attorney said. "My client feels like justice was able to be served because it was demonstrated that [Kelty] was wrong and mistreated her."

Kelty lost his medical license after pleading guilty last year to charges of Medicaid fraud and "corrupt business influence," according to WDRB in Louisville. He was sentenced to four years of house arrest and ordered to pay restitution of more than $22,000. Prosecutors in Harrison County, Indiana, originally charged Kelty with 22 counts, ranging from sexual battery to over-prescribing painkillers.

Truman is licensed to practice law in Kentucky and Indiana. He frequently represents injury victims on both sides of the Ohio River.
