"It's interesting to find that developers in other parts of the globe don't have the same conception of Cyber warfare as a threat as we do here,"
SANTA CRUZ, CA, November 02, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Cyber Warfare from Nation States is considered the number one threat to security by developers in North America, although few developers in other regions list this as a concern. Developers view cybercrime as the largest security threat when viewed as an aggregated worldwide whole. However, when viewed by geographical region, the perceptions vary considerably according the recently released Evans Data Corp's Global Development Survey.
The survey, conducted in six languages across four continents showed that developers in both the emerging Latin American and Asia-Pacific regions view the largest threat as "Intellectual Property Thieves and Corporate Spies", while those in the EMEA region cited "Cyber crime syndicates" as the threat we should be most concerned with. Only in North America was "Cyber Warfare from Nation States" cited by a significant number of developers. This concern was number one in North America.
The survey also showed that external public Clouds were considered the area of most vulnerability worldwide, cited by 27.4%, but the mobile client was within margin of error with 25.4% citing that as the most vulnerable area. For mobile devices, developers felt that mobile malware and viruses was the leading security concern in relation to information security and access control on mobile devices.
"It's interesting to find that developers in other parts of the globe don't have the same conception of Cyber warfare as a threat as we do here," said Janel Garvin CEO of Evans Data. "This may be due to recent news coverage on speculation about Cyber Warfare in the United States which tends to bring this issue to the forefront, or it may be that the US really is more of a target from other nation states."
The Global Development Survey is a broad survey of developers conducted twice a year worldwide on a variety of subjects. Topics included in this survey include, Security, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Databases and Big Data, Platform Adoption, Virtualization, Bock Chain Development, High Performance Computing, User Interfaces and UX Experience, Development Lifecycles, Tools and Demographics.
