Christine "Chris" Jacobs will be featured in an upcoming edition of Women of Distinction Magazine in 2016/2017.
Breaking into a field that was not yet fully discovered or understood, Christine "Chris" Jacobs decided, after years of teaching higher education, to go back to school to study computer programming in 1980. She has continued to excel in the technology field for nearly three decades now and over the past 17 years has been employed with Cisco Systems, the world's leader in the technology industry. Jacobs currently serves as Director of Certifications, Virtual Internet Routing Lab (VIRL), and Delivery for Learning@Cisco. Working alongside a team of more than 85 employees, she leads Cisco's Global Certifications and Lab Operations, supporting more than 2.8 million customers worldwide. Jacobs is responsible for driving operational performance and delivery for all design, development, and maintenance of hundreds of the organization's written certifications, including the Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) lab exams, which is accepted globally as the most prestigious networking certification in the industry. She is also responsible for Cisco's VIRL, which is helping lead digital transformation by making networking easier.
Jacobs has worked tirelessly to contribute to the overall success of the CCIE lab exams. In fact, during Jacobs' many years with Cisco, the company has expanded from offering one CCIE program, which was launched in 1993, to now having more than 240 different programs that span multiple technologies, covering many stages of an individual's career growth. "Cisco, especially, has given me the ability to learn from the best, while also being given the latitude to use my diversity and innovative skills to find better and new ways of doing things. What you get out of a career in technology is what you put into it. It's truly a career that keeps on giving."
In addition to serving as the Director of Certifications, VIRL, and Delivery at Cisco Systems, Jacobs is an active member of Cisco's Women in Technology and Connected Women Network.
