We want our customers to know what to look for -- especially if they're located in a high-risk area.
ST. LOUIS, MO, November 21, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Battery Handling Systems (BHS) Global, Ltd., a worldwide provider of battery handling and warehouse products, has created a brief guide to evaluating the earthquake-resistance of material handling equipment in Europe. The free article is available here.
Drawing on the latest research from the Seismic Hazard Harmonization in Europe project (SHARE), the European Commission's Joint Research Centre, and the International Journal of Structural Stability & Dynamics, the new guide summarizes seismic hazards across Europe's highest-risk areas. It also clearly explains the European Standards that apply to warehouse shelving.
Going a step further, though, the 3-page publication applies existing standards to forklift battery rooms and other niches within the modern European warehouse.
"This is a resource that should exist, but it didn't," said Katy Cortinovis, Marketing Manager at BHS Global, of the article. "Seismic standards don't mention specialized equipment like forklift battery handling systems. We want our customers to know what to look for -- especially if they're located in a high-risk area."
Since the 2013 publication of SHARE's European Seismic Hazard Map, areas with the greatest risk for serious earthquakes have been public knowledge. But warehouse managers in these high-hazard zones often had to rely on partial information when choosing equipment.
"When you're buying pallet racks in Europe, you can ask the manufacturer if they comply with EN 15512 [the European Standard that lists structural requirements for racking systems]," Cortinovis said. "We want that level of clarity for battery handling equipment, too."
To that end, BHS Global now offers the new guide, Earthquake-Resistant Warehouse Equipment for Europe's Seismic Regions, at the online BHS Global Industry Knowledge Base.
