SANTA ANA, CA, November 24, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Mobile Mohs, Inc. recently played a major role in a Mohs Micrographic surgical mission by Blade and Light International to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
The nine person team led by Hayes B. Gladstone, M.D., co-founder of Blade and Light International, performed over 30 excisions and Mohs reconstructive surgeries and taught the Mohs procedure to the local Dermatologist and surgery staff at the Hospital of Dermato-Venereology in Ho Chi Minh City, June 27-30th, 2016. Patients came from all over Vietnam seeking treatment for their large tumors.
Mobile Mohs, Inc.'s senior Histotechnician, Erica Montero volunteered on the trip. Ms. Montero processed the excised tissue, using the Mohs frozen section technique, in a cryostat. "Ms. Montero was a very important part of our team. Her expertise, efficiency and patience allowed us to perform complex Mohs surgery cases in a clinic and hospital that had never before performed them. Her excellent skills really allowed us to demonstrate the effectiveness of Mohs Surgery," noted Dr. Gladstone.
Because the hospital did not have access to a cryostat, the machine necessary to process the frozen tissue sections, Mobile Mohs, Inc. also donated a new cryostat to the hospital. "Blade and Light International and the patients are really indebted to the generosity of Mobile Mohs, Inc. and its owner, Tim Duffy. It took a great deal of effort to bring the cryostat over to Vietnam, and because it is still a developing country, the Hospital really couldn't afford a cryostat" said Dr Gladstone, adding that "we wouldn't have been able to treat these patients without Mr. Duffy's support." Dr. Nguyen Kim Khoa, Chief of Dermatologic Surgery and Plastic Surgery at the Hospital, said "We really thank Mobile Mohs, Inc. very much for the precious gift of the cryostat. It was a dream come true to have one for the hospital."
This is the second successful collaboration between Blade and Light International and Mobile Mohs, Inc. In 2013, the two groups partnered to bring Mohs surgery and training to patients and medical students in Durban, South Africa.
