The prototype of a net-connected rural habitation is being launched here, under a partnership between the Andhra Pradesh government, the University of California at Berkeley, and several leading technology organizations.
The Innovation Society of the A.P. government is associated with the Garwood Center for Corporate Innovation at the UC Berkeley-Haas School of Business in the effort to build a prototype scalable village, leveraging digital technology and open innovation with the goal of the project is to empower villagers with access to technology, transparent information, easy to use digital tools, and resources to develop entrepreneurial skills with direct access to global markets to improve their rural standard of living, including health and healthcare. Ultimately this project will provide a model for use in other rural villages across the country and world which will enable healthier populations empowered with technology and experiences to become economically independent.
