Women of Distinction Magazine Selects Meagan Murphy as a Distinguished Professional in Her Field

    EAST HAMPTON, MA, December 07, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Meagan Murphy, Managing Director of Deliberate Healing Productions, LLC, has been recognized as a Distinguished Professional in her field through Women of Distinction Magazine. Meagan Murphy was featured in a 2016 edition of Women of Distinction Magazine and was recently selected to be included in their Top 10 in 2016 edition.

Bringing more than 25 years of experience with her in both film and broadcasting, Meagan Murphy formed Deliberate Healing Productions, LLC as Managing Director in 2012 so that she could produce 'The Breast Archives', a self-funded documentary, to shed light on a topic that affects many women worldwide today. The powerful film features incredible stories of nine brave women who were willing to bare their souls and their breasts on camera. The documentary investigates how the media, religion, patriarchy, and other cultural influences impact the relationship women have with their breasts, and seeks to offer a refreshed understanding of the interaction between a woman's breasts and her mental, physical, and spiritual development. By creating an occasion to talk about a taboo subject, Murphy hopes to change the way women and society perceive the female body.

"The discontent women feel toward their breasts is strikingly widespread across the western world," Murphy said about her inspiration to do this film. "Because girls' bodies are judged and sexualized from a very early age, it is rare for a woman to be able to define her breasts on her own terms. Media plays a real role in shaping our attitude about our bodies, but this film can help to correct some of the misperceptions and fallacies that exist."

Making amazing strides by gaining much needed recognition over the past four years, 'The Breast Archives' is the only film to reach the market that doesn't focus on breast cancer. It's also the first film that roots itself in a very overlooked perception of the female body.

Very much inspired by other women entrepreneurs, many of whom have become mentors, Murphy is especially fond of the nine women in 'The Breast Archives'. They've demonstrated that to be vulnerable is to be courageous, and that true courage means being vulnerable, which is a truism that's beautifully reflected in her documentary.

"Using a small nest egg I'd inherited from my grandparents, I was able to travel to Egypt to visit the ancient temples where I saw towering, topless figures of goddesses and matriarchs," Murphy noted in regard to how it all started for her. "It struck me that this ancient civilization had very different attitudes about women, and about their bodies. I particularly became inspired by the idea that breasts contain a form of ancient wisdom and wanted to try to understand what that might be through the medium of film. I'd been shooting interviews with crews all over New England for 10 years at that point, so asking women to talk about a breast-based wisdom felt reasonable and easy to arrange. After I shot the interviews, it was clear that I'd captured a conversation that deserved my full attention, so I resigned from the position I'd held at WGBY-TV for 12 years, and have since devoted myself to 'The Breast Archives'."

Murphy, who earned her BS in 1989 at Northeastern University, holds two certificates from the International Film and Television workshops in her home state of Maine. She also holds certificates from a New England based Women's Mystery School and Mama Gena's School of Womanly Arts, and holds a 200-hour Teacher Training Certificate from Expressive Arts & Yoga through Northampton's Embodiment Institute. During her time spent working for PBS-WGBY, Murphy contributed and oversaw several award-winning series. Her film repertoire includes 'Night Deposit', 'Fathers & Sons', and 'Victor's Big Score'. Active in several relative organizations, including the International Documentary Association, Women Business Owners Alliance, eWomen, and Women in Film and Video/New England, she also serves on several committees for the Arts Council in Easthampton. Notably, Murphy earned a Communicator's Award for her work with teenagers and a Medical Journalism Fellowship through Blue Cross Blue Shield.
