210 Restaurant and Live Music Lounge's December Live Music Calendar

    HIGHWOOD, IL, December 13, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- 210's December music lineup is truly eclectic and satisfies the musical cravings of the varied North Shore and Chicagoland audience. Wednesdays showcase singer-songwriters and smaller jazz acts. Enjoy JazzLive@210 every Thursday evening featuring jazz artists with music beginning at 7 p.m. On Fridays and Saturdays, the music kicks up a notch with funk, rock or dance music that begins around 9 p.m., so guests can enjoy a delicious conversation-friendly dinner before getting their groove on.

"When it comes to our music, we are sticklers for quality," said music program director Judy Shatkin, an accomplished jazz pianist who heads the Judy Night Quartet featuring Brian Wilkie on pedal steel guitar. "We only present polished entertainers who offer great music for listening, dining and dancing. We will continue to expand our music program to showcase great talent, including more acclaimed artists from around the country. 210 Restaurant & Live Music Club represents a great evening out, with excellent food, great musical entertainment and dancing."

Hammond Heaven: Soul Message, Thursday, Dec. 1, 7-10pm
Soul Message is made up of Chris Foreman on the Hammond B3 Organ, Greg Rockingham on the drums, Lee Rothenberg on the guitar and special guest Greg Ward on alto saxophone.

Classic Addiction, Friday, Dec. 2, 9pm-12am
Classic Addiction plays a diverse collection of classic rock music with frequent underpinnings of jazz and blues. The unique sound explores the essence of great music and brings up a certain nostalgia that spans cultures and decades.

Heartache Tonight, Friday, Dec. 3, 9pm-12:15am
Heartache Tonight delivers a true Eagles concert experience. With meticulous attention to detail, the tribute band's performances, from the vocal harmonies to the guitar riffs, are genuine and faithful to the original rock powerhouse that produced hits throughout four decades. The six band members have shared stages with some of the biggest names in rock, including Jimmy Buffett, Joe Cocker and the Doobie Brothers.

Matt Feddermann, Wednesday, Dec. 7, 7-10pm
Taking his early rock influences and melding them with acoustic based music, Matt Feddermann has created a sound that is reminiscent of early Tom Petty, The Beatles, Rhett Miller & Dawes. His music is melodic & his sound is accessible. Over the years, Feddermann has performed at venues like House of Blues, Metro, Double Door and at festivals including Taste of Chicago, Rock Around The Block and Sheffield Garden Walk. During that time, he was seen on WGN TV, NBC Chicago, the Rosie O'Donnell Show and heard on WXRT, WYKT, WRLR and WLUW locally. Most recently, Feddermann was featured in a HGTV television special called "Pumpkin Wars" with Property Brother Jonathan Scott. The show was filmed during the Great Highwood Pumpkin Festival in which Feddermann was the headline act. In 2015, Matt signed a deal with Heavy Hitters Music, writing songs and instrumental tracks for TV & film.

Judy Night Quartet Holiday Special, Thursday, Dec. 8, 7-10pm
Now featuring Brian Wilkie on pedal steel guitar, the Judy Night Quartet is bringing a little bit of soul to jazz. And this month we will pay homage to the holiday season with beloved songs--albeit with our jazz imprint.

Judy is a physician who left her medical career in 2009 to pursue matters of the heart, including music and playing the piano. She has recently hit the Chicago scene, and has recently completed a year of monthly residency with her larger ensemble at the Serbian Village Restaurant. During her undergraduate career, she was enriched by two summer semesters at Berklee School of Music, but also had a rich jazz experience at Harvard University, playing in the top ensemble there with many wonderful musicians, including acclaimed saxophonist Joshua Redman. Guests that came to work with the Harvard Jazz Band during her tenure included Gerry Mulligan, Wynton and Ellis Marsalis, Clark Terry, Illinois Jacquet, Harry Connick, Jr., and Carla Bley. Justin Kramer on drums and Jackson Kidder on bass round out the quartet.

Growing up in Central Illinois, Brian was heavily influenced by country music and didn't really explore jazz until he started the University of Illinois music program. The skills he refined there led him to Nashville where he worked as a session player and toured with Allison Krauss, Pam Tillis, Lorrie Morgan and others. In addition, Brian has appeared on "Nashville Now" and led that band on a national television telethon in L.A.

Justin Kramer has a degree in Percussion Performance from the University of Illinois (1992). He went on to play in many ensembles around the Chicagoland area including The Maxwell Street Klezmer Band and the progressive jazz group Spazztet. After a two-year stint in New York City, Justin returned to Chicago and currently enjoys playing with The Judy Night Ensemble and teaching high school English in the western suburbs.

Jackson Kidder moved to Chicago 5 years ago to pursue his music degree from DePaul University. At DePaul he studied with Kelly Sill, Jason Heath, and Dennis Carroll. During his third year at DePaul, Jackson was a member of the top jazz ensemble, culminating in performances with Randy Brecker at the Jazz Showcase in May of 2014. Since graduating in 2015, Jackson has enjoyed continuing his musical journey through teaching, playing with innovative new organizations such as Chicago Fringe Opera, and playing in the Judy Night Ensemble, among others.

Second Hand Soul, Friday, Dec. 9, 9pm-12am
Playing Motown, Soul and Rock and Roll songs, Second Hand Soul is all about fun.

Unfinished Business, Saturday, Dec. 10, 9pm-12am
A Deep Cuts Classic Rock cover band, Unfinished Business stays true to the original music. The band members' talent and energy brings audience members back to the Rock, R&B and Blues music of the 60s, 70s and mid 80s.

Dan Pierson, Wednesday, Dec. 14, 7-10pm
Dan is a phenomenal young jazz pianist and 210 is delighted to have him perform for our patrons. You will not be disappointed!

Paul Bedal Group, Thursday, Dec. 15, 7-11pm
Paul is a talented pianist and diverse composer having composed music in a variety of genres ranging from orchestral to electronic music. Recently Paul released his debut album, Chatter, which received positive marks from the NYC Jazz Record magazine and Wondering Sound catalogue.

Woodstock Review & Joe Cocker Tribute by Mad Dog Tribute Band, Friday, Dec. 16, 9pm-12am
Three hours of peace and music, led by band leader Doug James and his Mad Dog Tribute Band, who return to 210 Restaurant & Live Music Lounge. The evening is a Woodstock Review with tributes to Santana, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, CS&N and Jimi Hendrix, too.

Second Time Around, Saturday, Dec. 17, 9pm-12am
Inspired by the works of many Classic Rock greats including Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and The Eagles, the members of Second Time Around strive to perform their songs with passion and accuracy. Fans of The Eagles will especially enjoy the vocals and complex harmonies of John Devlin, Toni Callahan and Angie Fridono that are particularly reminiscent of the band.

Highland Park Pops Big Band, Wednesday, Dec. 21, 7:30-9:30pm
The Highland Park Pops Big Band is a 17-piece jazz band that plays swing tunes, jazz favorites, dance music and big band standards and has kept jazz from the big band era alive on the North Shore for the past three decades, playing the classic and popular arrangements of Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Woody Herman, Stan Kenton and many other renowned artists and styles. The music is timeless, and the full, brassy sound is enjoyed by music lovers of all ages at outdoor programs, civic functions and dances.

Fred Simon, Thursday, Dec. 22, 6-8pm
Chicago keyboardist Fred Simon has collaborated with heavies like Larry Coryell, and has recorded as a leader with support from the likes of Oregon reedman Paul McCandless as well as Pat Metheny Group bassist Steve Rodby and drummer Paul Wertico.

Simon's own ensembles in the fusion arena take an interesting approach to this style of music, where many others fall into cliched traps. At the turn of the millennium and beyond Simon has led several dates for the Naim label, issuing such albums as Dreamhouse (2000), Remember the River (2004), and Since Forever (2009).

Northwest Corner/Ravinia Ramblers, SwizFest, Thursday, Dec. 22, 8-10pm
Northern California's most dynamic keyboard player and native North Shore favorite, Brian Swislow, returns to sit in on a special night with Northwest Corner and Ravinia Ramblers. "B Swizlo" of the funk jam band, Object Heavy and Zappa family band, Roister, is coming home to join his old friends in making high energy family jams. Swiz will anchor keys for Northwest Corner who brings their discerning ear for Grateful Dead and Dead-style covers to the 210 stage led by veteran face melter Cary Cohen and core members Debbie Flavell-O'Cull and Randy "Beef" Rosset (bass). Joined by a revolving guest array including Bill Grady, Richard Pettingill and other surprises, NWC will take you on yet another fabulous long strange trip.

Leading off the evening, Swiz joins Ravinia Ramblers in an encore presentation of jamgrass-poprock covers AND original music by high flying, Jason Berger. Berger, experiencing a surge in his musical creativity, leads this group through soaring harmonies and tight guitar jams. The Ramblers will be with friends and fellow collaborators Brian Wilkie (pedal steel and searing Strat) and Marty Kondziolka on boss drums!

The night is sure be filled with cross-overs and collaboration, as this elite musical lineage spreads out over the 210 stage. Ride ON!

Sam Cockrell, Friday, Dec. 23, 9pm-12am
Growing up in the Blues territory of Chicago's South Side, Sam knew the area's biggest blues names but was not drawn to the genre. Instead, his early influencers were rock bands such as Grand Funk Railroad, Yes, the Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan as well as soul and R&B music starts like Sly and The Family Stone, The Commodores and Michael Jackson. As he matured, Sam developed his own eclectic style characterized by his open-minded attitude towards music and unwillingness to play what was expected of a black musician. His music takes on contemporary and age-old issues with sincerity but mixes in humor and spirit, culminated in high-spirited music that makes people happy.

Trevor Shandling, Wednesday, Dec. 28, 7-10pm
The drummer, pianist, and composer Trevor Shandling is a Highland Park native and UIC alum. He learned the drums at a young age by studying with his father, Rick Shandling, who is an underground staple of the Chicago jazz scene. He studied jazz drums with Ernie Adams at UIC and jazz piano with Dave Flippo. Trevor will be entertaining guests with his fine piano skills.

Tommy Muellner, Thursday, Dec. 29, 7-10pm
Tommy Muellner is a highly-respected Chicago born jazz pianist and composer with an uncanny understanding of harmonic movement, improvisation and musical interplay. Muellner has received critical acclaim from aficionados and statesmen throughout the jazz world for his piano acumen and creativity. Playboy magazine critic Neil Tesser cites Tommy as "a pianist and tunesmith of stellar magnitude." Mike Drew of the Milwaukee Sentinel Journal says, "Like the late keyboard master Bill Evans, Tom finds classic gems, and creates lyrical variations" while Hammond organ master Joey DeFrancesco says, "Tommy swings, grooves, is soulful, and in total command of his instrument, plus I love him, he's one of my favorites!"

Mr. Blotto: Saturday, Friday, Dec. 30, 9pm-12am
Mr. Blotto was born in Chicago as an off-night vehicle for musicians who loved each other's playing but were in different bands at the time. The only rule was that they would only play what they absolutely loved to play. That philosophy continues to this day and has led Mr. Blotto into unique musical situations.

Mr. Blotto takes the Jam band aesthetic into areas unfamiliar to the standard Jam Scene. They have been known to cover entire albums by Led Zeppelin and The Who as well as perform entire shows of Country and Reggae. Artists as diverse as the Grateful Dead, the Flaming Lips, Willie Nelson and The Velvet Underground have seen their material interpreted by Mr. Blotto in the 2400+ shows the band has performed in the last 20 years.

Mr. Blotto draws from a 300+ song list. It starts from the band's Original Material, which is drawn from 5 released and 2 as-yet unreleased CD's as well as a wealth of unrecorded songs. Mr. Blotto builds its sets on these 100 or so Original songs and peppers the rest of the sets with material from sources as varied as Dancehall, Reggae and Outlaw Country with some Chicago Blues thrown in for good measure. Set lists vary depending on the setting, but rely primarily on the Original Material, with no two shows being the same.

"Barlow Shanghai", the 5th and latest CD was released in 2006 and saw the band in collaboration with John Perry Barlow (lyricist to the Grateful Dead).

Rollover, Saturday, Dec. 31, 9pm-12am
Louie Zagoras is the founder, lead singer/lead Guitarist and primary songwriter of Rollover. Louie and Rollover toured the States back and forth in the 90's when Rollover's first record broke big on Chicago's 93.1 WXRT FM radio. Louie's song "Shipwreck" was the break-out single. His sound is described as "Roots Rock meets the Blues". Louie was the first Chicago Rock Artist ever to be signed by the Legendary Bill Graham Management (Santana, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Neville Brothers, Joe Satriani etc.).

With the popularity of Rollover's debut CD growing, Bill Graham put the band on the road supporting top Rock acts like The Allman Brothers, Joe Satriani, Sheryl Crow, Dave Mason, The Neville Brothers, Blues Traveler, John Hiatt, Hot Tuna, Johnny Winter, Jimmie Vaughan, Buddy Guy, Robin Trower, Eddie Money, and many others. In 1995 Louie's song "Shipwreck" was featured on A&M Records "H.o.r.d.e. CD Sampler." Rollover did many tour dates supporting Guitarist Joe Satriani and even went along with Joe to the U.K for a month of sold out shows in 1996. Upon returning to the states the band did two more sold out nights with Joe and the famous Fillmore in San Francisco.
