/24-7PressRelease/ - NORTH CHARLESTON, SC, March 09, 2008 - The thought of an IRS audit strikes fear in the heart of most Americans. The process can be harrowing, but if it turns out that you need representation, the experience can be considerably less difficult.
"There are many cases wherein IRS is proposing an additional tax assessment that the issue can be resolved by simply filing a proper tax return or filing an amended return, when necessary, to initiate the appeals process," said Cathy Boags, a retired IRS Agent, Enrolled Agent and a member of JK Harris' Licensed Taxpayer Representatives team.
Widowed, Mrs. Ellen Stone of Jacksonville, Fla., found out after her husband passed away in 2006 that he had not filed taxes for 2000 through 2004. She did not have income for those years and Mr. Stone had assured her he had taken care of their taxes and that everything was okay.
Mr. Stone had been an active buyer and seller of stocks, but had not filed their tax returns for 2000 through 2004. The IRS had filed substitute returns in place of the Stones' missing returns and Mrs. Stone ended up with a tax liability of over $21,000.
That's when she turned to JK Harris, the nation's largest tax resolution company, for assistance.
Boags received Mrs. Stone's case and went to work immediately. She determined tax returns should be filed for the years the Stones had not filed. She was then able to contact the Audit Reconsideration Unit of the IRS armed with the new returns and get a hold in place so that Mrs. Stone did not get put under collections enforcement.
"I am extremely pleased with JK Harris and Company," said Mrs. Stone. "Cathy Boags was extremely helpful and very pleasant to deal with. She made me feel quite comfortable throughout the whole process."
Ultimately, Mrs. Stone received notice that the IRS had received all of the tax returns JK Harris prepared and had filed for her and she had a zero balance.
"Most important is making the proper decision of what needs to be done to resolve the issue," said Boags. "This is where the expertise of a tax professional becomes extremely important."
"I would and have recommended JK Harris to others in need of tax help," said Mrs. Stone. "If in the future, I should ever need tax help again, I would definitely use JK Harris. Thank you so very much for your great services."
"I was glad to be able to resolve this situation favorably for our client," said Boags.
