ALBANY, OR, December 21, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Trenee Zweigle, RN, Owner, Happy Smiles for Kids, has been recognized as a Distinguished Professional in her field through Women of Distinction Magazine. Trenee Zweigle, RN, will be featured in an upcoming edition of Women of Distinction Magazine in 2016 and their Top 2016 edition.
A Registered Nurse for more than 25 years, Trenee Zweigle, RN, has spent many of those years floating throught different hospitals and settings, including emergency rooms and cardiac units. But it wasn't until she began spending time in the children's units, especially the children's oncology unit, did she truly find her purpose.
"At first, it was very difficult for me to work in this capacity. I would often find myself crying on the way home after my shift had ended because I felt so bad for what these innocent children were going through. It's so unfair to them," Zweigle said. "They are frightened and confused. They wanted my time, attention, and affection, which I love to give, but I had other responsibilities to do in addition to spending time with them, and that's when it dawned on me."
Zweigle began custom making one-of-a-kind Hospital Buddy and Chemo Buddy Stuffed Dolls. The purpose of these dolls was to comfort the children when they were feeling alone or scared. Dressed in hospital gowns and sporting giant smiles on their faces, these dolls were making a big hit. They were lifting the spirits of these children; even the teenagers were finding comfort in them.
"When I designed my dolls, I made sure that they had arms reaching up for hugs so that the children could hug them," Zweigle added. "I'd always pretend to kiss the dolls and gave them hugs before handing them over. Then I'd tell them I'd be back later to check on them. I told the child their Buddy had lots of hugs and kisses for them until I got back. The doll replaced my absence and made the children feel comforted in knowing I'd return."
A great advantage is that these dolls can be taken along with them when the children receive x-rays, castings, chemotherapy, and other procedures. They not only comfort them, but also help with communication between the children, providers, families, and doctors, because the children feel safer with a companion Buddy Doll.
Zweigle has a dedicated website for her dolls and, due to their high demand, now has a variety of them to choose from, including the Sandman doll for smaller children to snuggle with. Ranging from $17.95-$21.95, these dolls stand 16 inches tall and are dressed in bright materials and mini hospital gowns to cheer up the boys and girls. They are all stuffed with allergic resistant, non-toxic materials and all come with a sweet poem attached. Customers can either purchase a doll for a specific child in mind, or they can purchase donation dolls for Happy Smiles for Kids to deliver throughout various hospitals to a child in need. Some donors have even purchased dolls for every child in an oncology and hospital unit. Zweigle hopes to make her dolls available statewide and nationwide soon.
