DENVER, CO, December 30, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Family Promise of Greater Denver partners with congregations across the metro area to shelter families experiencing homelessness. These faith communities provide temporary homes for our neighbors, and Family Promise has a need for additional partnerships in the new year.
Congregations take turns sheltering families in meeting rooms or other space for a week at a time, two to five times per year. Volunteers also bring in home-cooked meals, visit with the families and surround them with compassion.
"Each congregational partner makes our mission possible. We serve an average of 70 families every year, but we don't have our own shelter space - the congregations provide that welcoming environment for these families on their journey from homelessness to stable housing," said Allie Card, executive director of Family Promise. "During this season of giving, these community partnerships represent our deepest need."
In 2017, there are six open weeks with no congregation to shelter families, and community groups such as recreation centers, businesses or other organizations can also partner with Family Promise to help families.
