New Jersey Eye Doctors Offer Help for Dry Eye and Eyelid Problems with LipiFlow

About Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) & LipiFlow
Meibomian glands are tiny glands in your eyelids that secrete oil into the tear film to prevent it from evaporating. When the Meibomian Glands become blocked or do not function properly and the tears evaporate too quickly it results in symptoms of dryness, irritation, redness, watering, grittiness and even pain. MGD is a leading cause of dry eye syndrome. MGD also may predispose you to an eyelid problem called blepharitis which can cause your eyelids to become red, crusty and inflamed.

"The first step in treating MGD is making an accurate diagnosis. By using the LipiScan device we are able to perform high definition imaging of the glands quickly and clearly right in the comfort of the office setting," shared Dr. Confino. Traditionally, eye doctors have used warm compresses, digital massage and eye drops to attempt to treat Meibomian Gland Dysfunction.
