NEW YORK, NY, January 10, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Papa Merica is the working title of an independent roadmovie production. We'll start shooting in NYC going all the way south along the roads to Nashville, Atlanta, New Orleans, San Antonio, El Paso, Albuquerque, Denver, Las Vegas, San Francisco down to Los Angeles. For 6 weeks our skeleton crew and cast is going to live on the road, inhabiting two 1988 Ford RVs, of which one will be the rolling set.
Papa Merica tells the story of Bernard, a young Afro-American-French man coming to New York to get to know his biological father. Unexpectedly he finds himself on a journey crossing the USA in an old RV. Driven by curiosity about the traces on which Kimberly, his father's latest acquaintance is leading him, Bernard's believes are going to change.
The movie deals with the condition of a young black man trying to unravel the background of his split up 21st-century-family. Telling about a nomads seek for truth in those vast and spectacular landscapes of a diverse country we call U.S.A. About unforeseen encounters, that are going to reveal the plenitude of possibilities being a man and how to fulfill his life.
Papa Merica is an international collaboration of French, Belgium and German filmmakers enabled through Kino*-networking, starring an American-French cast. Driven by the believe in something more various and individual than media's representation around the presidential election period regarding the US American image, the director, writer and actor Mickael N'Dour designed the concept of Papa Merica. The casting is ongoing and aims to contain a majority of black actor talents to compete the lack of starring Afro-American main-roles in cinema's culture. "We aim to go into production short before the inauguration day" stated Co-Producer and one of the cinematographers Nicolas Decoster, soon followed by two other Kino members Heidi Loukoum and Raphael Federer, joining the project with the goal to bring this adventure to life.
*Kino is a globally situated filmmaker's movement founded in 1999 in Montreal.
Mickaël N'Dour has been making films for over a decade. As a French Senegalese he has directed dozens of short films, music videos and a couple of feature films. Within the last year he has been honing his directing skills at Kino.
Nicolas Decoster has over five years of experience in various capacities from grips to lighting, all the way to Director of Photography. He is also an ambitious Kino member gaining his artistic inspiration by travelling the world.
Heidi Loukoum is a Director in her own right, she will come on board as the 1st director assistant as well as the onset editor. She has been in the Kino movement for many years.
Raphael Federer has become a Kino member after his studies in media design to develop his skills as a cinematographer with a several years background as a camera operator, gaffer and editor. He joins the project on the back of another road movie he shot this summer with a Belgian director from Brussels to Moscow.
