Find a dentist who is committed to lifelong learning.
WOBURN, MA, January 11, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Divine Smiles announced on Tuesday that principal dentist Dr. Ryan Clancy recently appeared on the eHealth Radio Network in a podcast segment titled "Dental Myths Debunked." Published on eHealth Radio's Dental Care and Health News channels, host Eric Michaels interviewed Dr. Clancy about five of the most pervasive myths regarding oral health issues and treatment options.
In addition to discussing topics such as sleep apnea, oral cancer, complete or partial tooth loss and temporomandibular joint disorder, Dr. Clancy told Michaels that a persistent myth he sees about dentistry is that all dentists are the same. Patients who "do their homework," he said, will find that dentists vary in important aspects like their level of training after dental school.
"Find a dentist who is committed to lifelong learning," Dr. Clancy said. "Dentistry has really evolved into a part of medicine, and so many things are interrelated that you really have to be on top of the literature and on top of oral medicine."
Dr. Clancy advised listeners to look for dentists belonging to organizations like the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), which employs a "stringent recertification process" to "hold dentists to a really high level." Dr. Clancy has achieved fellowship and mastership status with the AGD.
Dr. Clancy also addressed the myth that procedures not covered by dental insurance are unimportant or unnecessary.
"Oftentimes, for budgetary reasons, [treatments] are denied," he said. "My solution to that is [patient education and patient advocacy] - I've had them call their own companies and complain or call their own human resources and complain."
"I would encourage your listeners to be their own advocate," Dr. Clancy continued, "Fight for yourself and fight for your own benefits."
