About Annette R. March-Grier:
As the Founder and President of Roberta's House, Ms. March-Grier faced a significant challenge as no grief support services existed in Baltimore that tended to the entire family system prior to the founding of Roberta's House. With very little financial resources, and the high demand for services, she successfully spearheaded the development of the well sought programs offered through Roberta's House serving over 4,000 grieving families and children at no cost. Committed to her calling to help the bereaved, she grew Roberta's House significantly, a volunteer driven organization, and expanded its services by obtaining city and state grants, as well as foundation support.
Ms. March-Grier while raised in her family's funeral parlor learned the impact grief had on families at a very young age while she watched her mother tend to the grieving. Her vision to make a difference in the lives of others was formulated during those times. She pursued nursing, and graduated from the University of Delaware School of Nursing in 1982. She then worked for Johns Hopkins Hospital for three years, and the Visiting Nurse Association of Baltimore part-time, for eight years. In 1985, she returned to her family business to continue her work with her parents and siblings and attained a mortuary science degree from the Community College of Baltimore County before becoming a licensed mortician. In pursuit of her higher calling, in 2007 she founded Roberta's House, in honor of the matriarch of the March family Julia Roberta March.
Ms. March-Grier has been the recipient of numerous notable awards. In 2014, she was selected by CNN, the worldwide leader in global news, for making a difference in the community and the world through her grief support work. As a result, she stands along with a prestigious group of CNN Heroes. In 2015, for her work to empower women to create transformative change in the world, and the development of the human person through services for those who were marginalized; she was awarded the highest honor of Notre Dame Preparatory School, the Caroline Friess Alumnae Service Award.
In 2016, she was inducted into the Caring Hall of Fame while selected as a 2016 National Caring Award winner for her grief support work through Roberta's House for adults, families and children who lost a loved one to homicide.
The Caring Hall of Fame where Annette March Grier's photo and profile of her accomplishments are displayed is located in the Frederick Douglas Museum on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC.
Ms. March Grier, is a member of the American Cemetery Association, the National Funeral Directors Association, Association of Death Educators & Counselors, and Harbor City Chapter of Links Inc., where she was formerly a Vice President.
