"The DownTown Mystic project has always been about the music, and that is why it's very exciting to be part of a label like Nub Music"
NEW YORK, NY, February 02, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sha-La Music, Inc. announces the signing of a Licensing Deal with UK Indie Nub Music. Under the agreement Nub will release recordings by American Roots Rocker DownTown Mystic in Europe and Asia. First up will be the digital release of the DownTown Mystic Side Two EP on February 10 to help set up the release of the Rock'n'Roll Romantic album later in 2017.
The deal between Sha-La and Nub came about thanks to a mutual associate in the UK, Jurgen Dramm/BMP, who brought the two principals together. Nub Music has been raising its profile recently with Nub TV, a new show on Sky TV Channel 212 in the UK. That profile will be substantially raised when a big announcement is made shortly about an impending Major Label deal.
The Side Two EP will have 4 songs, including the rocker Hard Enough, featuring the RnR Hall of Fame rhythm section of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band--Max Weinberg & Garry Tallent. Eyes of The World features Steve Holley & Paul Page from Ian Hunter's Rant Band. Lead track Dead End Space was sync licensed by Manchester United, one of the UK's premier Football Clubs, for a private in-house video last year. Final track Think It Over speaks to a time for change that faces everyone, especially timely in the UK after Brexit.
2016 was a banner year for DownTown Mystic that started with the single Way To Know going to #1 in Europe. The spring release of the DownTown Nashville EP debuted in the Top 5 Most Added on the AMA Chart and went on to be DownTown Mystic's most successful release at Americana Radio in the US. In the summer, the Rock'n'Roll Romantic album was digitally released to critical raves and in the fall, the Rock'n'Roll Romantic CD followed. With an ambitious promotion plan at 3 radio formats, over 80 radio stations in the US have been playing Rock'n'Roll Romantic, making it the artist's most successful release to date.
Sha-La Music President and DownTown Mystic writer/producer, Robert Allen, says signing with Nub Music is the next step in the musical evolution of the DownTown Mystic Brand. Robert comments, "The DownTown Mystic project has always been about the music, and that is why it's very exciting to be part of a label like Nub Music. The one common denominator in all of the deals I've made is that the other company is also run by a musician." Mark Lee, Head of Nub Music, is the founder of UK indie faves The Pocket Gods, who set a record last year in The Guinness Book of Records for Most Songs on a Digital Album.
Robert began work to build the DownTown Mystic Brand in 2010 by signing up some songs with a small indie music agency named Jingle Punks, which is now one of the top music licensing companies at TV. Robert says, "The cool thing about Jingle Punks is that it was started by this crazy RnR wildman, Jared Gutstadt, aka Jingle Jared, and all the employees there are musicians. Jared placed one of the songs on NBC's The Voice, which at the time was the #1 TV show in the US." The following year, a fateful meeting with future LA power broker Eddie Caldwell/Music of The Sea in France, would create a business partnership that would lead to 3 of Robert's songs being sync licensed by LA's top Music Supervisor--Alexandra Patsavas of Chop Shop Music.
Robert continues, "I was in Cannes for Midem to meet with this legendary German A&R guy to get a deal for DownTown Mystic. I kept bumping into Eddie, who was going to 10-12 meetings a day there. Besides being a real hustler, in the best sense of the word, Eddie is also a musician with great ears. On our last night at Midem we finally got together to compare notes over drinks in this tiny bar off of the lobby in the famed Carlton Hotel. We became fast friends. Back in the US I introduced Eddie to my friend Sat Bisla/A&R Worldwide and Sat opened some doors in LA. That's all Eddie needed. Next thing I know, Alexandra Patsavas is calling, looking for music for The Carrie Diaries. Eddie sends her some songs and she picks mine!"
Since then the DownTown Mystic Brand has continued to grow with music sync licensed on over 100 TV shows in over 15 countries, as well as songs placed in films and played on over 10,000 radio stations around the world. If 2016 was a banner year, then the new deal with Nub Music should make 2017 an even bigger one for DownTown Mystic and Sha-La Music.
" "Dead End Space," soulful, rolling guitar playing, this is a true heartland, Americana rock song"
Lisa D'Arrigo/IndieMinded
"The fast-paced "Hard Enough" gives off a little Dave Edmunds vibe, lots of energy and full of guitars and background vocals" Kath Galasso/OnStage Magazine
"Other highlights include the melancholy "Eyes Of The World" Matt Richards/Real Mr. Housewife
"Think It Over...an assertive instrumentation and a chorus that is inspired by the halcyon days of late seventies / early eighties power-pop acts makes for another amazing effort."
