Syrian-Americans and Friends of Syria Gather for First National Conference of Its Type

The Syrian-American General Assembly

WASHINGTON, DC, March 15, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Six years after Syrians first took to the streets to demand freedom and dignity in a peaceful challenge to the Assad regime, hundreds of Syrian-Americans and friends of Syria will gather together in the nation's capital on Friday, March 17, 2017 for the first national conference of its type, the Syrian-American General Assembly.

The Syrian-American General Assembly offers an unprecedented opportunity for participants to tackle the most pressing issues and challenges facing Syrians today in engaging and inspirational Ted Talk-style presentations, diverse panels, and honest, solution-oriented conversations. In distinct segments throughout the day, conference attendees will deconstruct, discuss, and delve deep into four subjects: framing the Syrian narrative, bridging the community's differences, identifying priorities for advocacy under the newly-elected Trump administration, and supporting humanitarian work and civil society in Syria.

Organized by activists, community leaders, analysts, and policymakers based both in the DMV area and across the United States, the Syrian-American General Assembly occurs on the second day of the Revolution Unites Us Weekend: March 16-18, 2017.

In addition to Friday's conference, the Revolution Unites Us Weekend will feature a full-length Advocacy Day in which constituents gather to be trained on advocacy and to meet with their representatives; a fundraising dinner which raises money for advocacy efforts by Syrian advocacy, grassroots, and humanitarian organizations; a rally and march between the Capitol and the White House to amplify the demands of the Syrian people; and a cultural tribute which spotlights Syria's rich history of music, traditional dance, and cuisine.
