Louisville Attorney Karl Truman Leading the Charge to Locate World War II Veterans in Kentucky, Recognize Their Service with Honor Flights

Nonprofit Honor Flight Bluegrass Chapter's next flight for veterans takes off on May 10

The Honor Flight program is a powerful way to say 'thank you' to the veterans who gave so much for our country

LOUISVILLE, KY, April 10, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Karl Truman Law Office announced on Wednesday that principal attorney Karl Truman is seeking World War II veterans residing in Kentucky to board an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. Hosted by the nonprofit Honor Flight Bluegrass Chapter, Honor Flight missions commemorate the sacrifices of American soldiers by flying them to the nation's capital for free so they can visit veteran memorial sites.

"The Honor Flight program is a powerful way to say 'thank you' to the veterans who gave so much for our country," Truman said. "As veterans of World War II pass, we miss an opportunity to thank them for their service, which is why I want to extend this opportunity to every veteran living right in our backyard."

Truman researched data released last year by the Department of Veterans Affairs to find out how many World War II veterans live in Kentucky. He discovered that approximately 13,000 veterans of that conflict reside in the state.

Most of the veterans live in the area served by the Honor Flight Bluegrass Chapter. The nonprofit gives priority passage to survivors of World War II, as well as veterans of any conflict who have been diagnosed with a terminal illness.

Truman said that the information he found about the veteran population of Kentucky presents an opportunity to salute the local American heroes who served in World War II. The next Honor Flight mission is scheduled for May 10.

"Veterans are a living part of our nation's history," he said. "We owe them the opportunity to reflect on their service, and we owe it to ourselves to accompany these brave men on their journeys and hear their stories."

Having served in the U.S. military himself, Truman is proud to make veterans organization a key part of his firm's community involvement. He and other members of the Karl Truman Law Office have served as guardians accompanying the veterans on multiple Honor Flights. Last fall the firm co-sponsored the display of a historic B-25 bomber airplane at Bowman Field in Louisville, Kentucky, and sponsored tickets for four World War II veterans to take part in the Honor Flight Bluegrass Chapter's Flightless Dinner event.
