DANBURY, CT, April 05, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- "The painful effects of arthritis on our joints and spine increase as we age. As an aging population, more and more people are being effected." noted Daniel Southern, M.D., a Regenerative Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Physician in Fairfield County, Connecticut. "Recent data from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) tells us that the number of adults whose arthritis pain was limiting their daily activities has increased by more than 20% over the past several years. This is exactly what I have seen in my practice. We know that even modest exercise can reduce arthritis symptoms by up to 40 percent. But the problem is that arthritic pain prevents many people from exercising. What we're doing in regenerative orthopedics is blocking painful degeneration in joints and reducing pain enough to allow patients to tolerate exercise. We do this with by injecting a patient's own cells that can regenerate arthritic joint tissues," explained Dr. Southern.
According to the Centers for Disease Control arthritis is the nation's leading cause of disability. Approximately 54 million U.S. adults, or one in four, have arthritis, which can cause pain, stiffness and swollen joints. It is projected that by 2040, the number of arthritis patients in the United States will reach 78 million as the population increases and ages. Further, about 50% of all adults with heart disease or diabetes along with a third of those who were obese had arthritis. Arthritis and lack of mobility makes these conditions even more difficult to manage. Yet, only a limited number of arthritis patients engage in the types of physical activities that can help to reduce pain and improve mobility. The CDC based its findings and comments on data from the National Health Interview Survey.
"Arthritis suffers should be aware that regenerative orthopedic injections are not just for athletes like Tom Brady, Serena Williams, Raphael Nadal and Tiger Woods" insisted Dr Southern. "They are also for the growing numbers of ordinary Americans with arthritic pain who struggle to engage in simple daily activities like holding a cup, lifting a bag of groceries or walking to the car. Patients with arthritis may be reluctant to exercise because they are already in pain. By using regenerative orthopedic injections we can reduce pain so they can participate in physical activity such as walking, biking and swimming-and can actually reduce the suffering."

These include interventional orthopedic injections that use bone marrow stem cells, platelet rich blood plasma, and alpha-2 macroglobulin (A2M) in disc regenerative therapy and joint regenerative therapy for common work or sports injuries, or just "wear and tear that result in acute or chronic pain. In many instances, with regenerative orthopedic treatments Dr. Southern can provide an alternative for patients considering invasive surgery or joint replacement who hope to avoid the painful rehabilitation and long period of restricted activity that comes with surgery.
