MTPPI and iClinical Announce the Release of DECIO CDS

    WASHINGTON, DC, April 05, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Medical Technology and Practice Patterns Institute (MTPPI) and iClinical Inc. announce the release of the DECIO CDS Risk Score mobile application for Android OS. DECIO CDS has been developed to support Accountable Nephrology practices and is based on research that was conducted by the Medical Technology and Practice Patterns Institute and the University of California - Davis. Clinicians at the Veteran's Affairs New York Hospital Health System also collaborated as Nephrology domain experts. DECIO CDS was developed in response to the landmark "Choosing Wisely" initiative enacted by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Foundation.

"The goal of the 'Choosing Wisely' campaign is to reduce unnecessary medical procedures and expenditures in the U.S. This framework is immediately applicable to CKD patients and their clinician stakeholders," stated Dr. Mae Thamer, MTPPI's Director of Research. "CKD patients and their stakeholders are encouraged to identify opportunities and tools that enable shared decision-making about the initiation of dialysis. This is a top-five issue for the field of nephrology, particularly around decisions made by elderly individuals with significant co-morbidities who have high rates of mortality in the first few months after initiating dialysis. 'Choosing Wisely' recommends the development of tools to assist in this shared decision-making process and the risk score we developed was intended to fill this gap."

The predictive algorithms powering DECIO CDS were refined using patient cohorts from the US Renal Data System and claims data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Technical development of the Android application was completed by iClinical, a healthcare software company based out of San Francisco. "This app provides an objective 30-day and 60-day mortality risk score for a patient. In joint consultation with the physician, these scores can be used to decide on course of treatment. We hope this tool will gain widespread acceptance among physicians treating such patients," said iClinical's CEO Sridhar Byrappa.
