SHERIDAN, OR, April 20, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Oregon Regional Scholastic Art Awards this February yielded more than 50 percent of Delphian students winning either a Silver or Gold Key Award. Delphian students submitted more pieces than any other school, almost tripling the average amount of submissions. Ninety submissions were made by Delphian students with some students submitting multiple pieces.
Eighteen Delphian Gold Key winners competed at the national level. These students who received a Gold Award had a chance to win a scholarship at the national Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.
Kaden Morfopoulos, an upper school Delphian student, was one of five students nominated for an American Visionary for his ceramic work. This piece is on display at the Lawerence Gallery in Sheridan, OR, making Morfopoulos the youngest artist to be featured there.
The Scholastic Art Awards are held across the United States each year, recognizing K-12 students' artwork. There were 29 categories for students to submit their pieces. Delphian work included pieces in painting, ceramics, photography, drawing, mixed media and other mediums.
Delphian School attributes the success at competitions like this one to its fine arts classes. These afternoon classes allow students to choose courses based on their interests, such as fine arts. Classes in drawing, painting, sculpting, ceramic arts, photography and other special interest areas are offered regularly. Participating in art shows and competitions is encouraged at Delphian.
Delphian is a K-12 independent, co-educational day and boarding school located in Sheridan, Oregon, fifty miles southwest of Portland.
