"Take Steps empowers patients and provides a safe and welcoming environment for patients and their families to connect and inspire one another."
PITTSBURGH, PA, June 23, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Berger and Green, a well-established personal injury and Social Security disability law firm in Pittsburgh, is a sponsor for the upcoming Take Steps for Crohn's & Colitis walk on June 10, 2017 at the Hartwood Acres Amphitheater in Pittsburgh. This year marks the firm's seventh year of sponsorship.
Berger and Green also fundraises in the office as part of its outreach for the cause. The law firm's efforts have included selling popcorn, hosting a hot dog lunch for their building, and raffling prizes. The firm has a team of employees who, along with their families, will participate in the walk, including attorneys Cindy Berger and Larry Green.
The walk, coordinated by the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA), raises funds to find cures for Crohn's disease and colitis, debilitating, medically incurable diseases of the digestive system that affect more than 1.6 million Americans. Referred to collectively as inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), Crohn's and colitis cause severe abdominal pain, debilitating fatigue, extreme weight loss, and other symptoms that can cause permanent disability.
The CCFA holds Take Steps walks nationwide in the spring and fall. The events raise funds for IBD-related research, patient services, advocacy, and professional education. So far, the foundation has reached nearly half of its $150,000 goal. "Many patients feel they are alone in their struggle with IBD, not knowing how to explain their struggle with IBD to others," explains the CCFA. "Take Steps empowers patients and provides a safe and welcoming environment for patients and their families to connect and inspire one another."
The summer walk in Pittsburgh begins at 10 a.m. on June 10 at the Hartwood Acres Amphitheater, located at 200 Hartwood Acres. Check-in and the festival kickoff is at 9:00 a.m.
Featured activities on Walk Day include a short walk to honor those who are living with these conditions, music, food, kid's activities, local entertainment, and most importantly, "the company of hundreds of people who truly understand the impact of IBD," notes the CCFA website. The walk portion of CCFA's event is non-competitive in nature, with two- to three-mile routes that are usually handicap accessible. The foundation also offers various incentives for fundraising to help strengthen the commitment to support the cause, including memorabilia and access to all event day events.
There are several ways people can join Berger and Green in supporting the CCFA. Sign up for the walk on the CFFA website as an individual or a team, host your own fundraising efforts, and attend Berger and Green's fundraising events.
