Both of these young ladies are a credit to their communities, and for McNeely Stephenson to be a part of their journey in any way is truly humbling.
LOUISVILLE, KY, August 17, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Olivia Hogan is the recipient of the McNeely Stephenson Community Scholarship. In her essay, Hogan describes being a part of community outreach from a young age, beginning with memories of her parents' outreach and later, in middle school, when she and her family started a Hispanic outreach ministry. "We served in an apartment complex, offering English classes, practicing shopping at the grocery store, and role-playing conversations with others," Hogan wrote. "We also provided classes for the children - Bible lessons, crafts, snacks and playtime." Hogan continued her outreach throughout high school, where she has already earned 37 college credits which she will put toward classes at Liberty University in the fall. Using those credits, she hopes to earn a Master's degree in social work before attending law school.
Ann Marie Caldwell has been named the recipient of the McNeely Stephenson Personal Goals Scholarship. Caldwell wrote in her essay of her gratitude for the community in which she grew up, her desire to share the advantages she's had, and her passion for education. "I plan to never stop learning; doing so would be very boring," Caldwell said. "No matter how much I know, I will always thirst to know more." Caldwell plans to major in international business and then attend law school in order to further educational opportunities for less-advantaged people around the globe.
The McNeely Stephenson scholarship contest is offered to students in New Albany and the surrounding counties, including Clark, Floyd, Harrison, Washington, Scott, and Jefferson counties in Indiana, as well as Jefferson County, Ky. The two scholarships are based on essays which answer two questions: the first asks when the applicant became passionate about volunteering in their community and what they have done academically to further their cause, and where the applicant sees themself in 10 years and how the scholarship will help them further their goals.
Larry Church, a partner at McNeely Stephenson in New Albany who helped select the winners, said he couldn't be more pleased with the results of the contest.
"We are extremely happy to be able to offer scholarships to these two young ladies who have proved how much they deserve our help, and support from the rest of the community, in whatever endeavors they choose," Church said. "Both of these young ladies are a credit to their communities, and for McNeely Stephenson to be a part of their journey in any way is truly humbling. They've both earned these scholarships through their hard work, and we wish them the best of luck in the future."
This is the second year McNeely Stephenson of New Albany has sponsored a scholarship contest for students starting their college careers, and Church said he is pleased to announce that the contest will continue in an effort to further promote achievement in the community.
