Spotlight Interview with CEO of Lammas Incrementum

We are a direct marketing company, but beyond that we provide opportunities for people to learn the ropes of the industry, further developing in a professional capacity. I am passionate about helping individuals progress, whether it is within our business or elsewhere. I resent the phrase "this role requires previous experience" as I heard that a lot when I first graduated from University. I struggled to find work as a lot of businesses expect young professionals to possess both a degree and several years' experience in the industry which is virtually impossible. At Lammas Incrementum we are here to provide the experience needed to fulfil your potential as a working professional as well as an opportunity to grow within an exciting organisation. What motivated you to start your business?

Seeing others thrive within the industry, people who were my age and from a similar background is what motivated me. A fellow associate established a hugely successful office in Edinburgh, and I was inspired by her success. After University, I realised it was down to me to make my own luck, and this industry offered me the chance to do that.

In your opinion, what is the biggest misconception of the sales and marketing industry and what are you doing to dispel that?

The number one misconception in this industry is that businesses are made up of lots of people working really hard just to feed one person, but that is not true, especially in the case of Lammas Incrementum. I get the most satisfaction out of help elevate others and seeing them thrive in a role they enjoy.

What sets your company apart from others in the industry?

It personally affects me when I see people not doing well when I see someone not living up to their potential it really frustrates me. I am passionate about personal development and career progression, and I have always wanted to create a company that facilitates other people. I try to frequently get out of the office and spend time with my guys, so all team members are able to see me as a regular person who exists outside of the office, I think that makes me quite a unique boss.

What are the goals for Lammas Incrementum for the next five years?

Within the next five years, I definitely want to have at least ten offices in Scotland. I am working towards establishing a well-recognised brand name within Scotland and the rest of the UK, so people are proud to work as part of the Lammas team.

How do you generate new ideas?

Speaking to the guys in my company and asking for feedback. You can have clouded vision when it is your business so you should remove yourself from the situation whenever possible, in order to see the potential. You can be a bit bias, so I find that I learn a lot more about the business from hearing what my contractors and team members have to say on certain subjects.

Do you believe that there is one set formula for success as an entrepreneur?

In a way, yes because I think if you find someone that has achieved what you want to achieve, you should mirror everything they did and apply their winning strategy to your professional progression. You won't be able to simply copy someone else, but if you want to learn how to do something properly I definitely believe you should go and ask someone who has achieved big things, you can always adapt it to your style of working. Always consider "Are you willing to go all in, 110%, or is this just something you're fantasising about?" Think about how far you are willing to go to achieve these goals, what would you give up to make that a reality? If you are ferociously committed, attack it and don't look back.
