On the 15th of July, Emora Limited's Harrison travelled from the Nottingham headquarters to London after being invited to take part in an exclusive project by an expert coach in the industry. As part of the project, Lauren Harrison was asked to share how mentorship helped her achieve success as an entrepreneur. Emora limited were also invited to a major industry conference held at Manchester's Old Trafford Cricket ground and also travelled with business associates to Ibiza.
Emora Limited shared some of their thoughts as to why they believe that travel will result in later successes:
The Transformational Learning Theory warrants that people must have what is called a 'Disorientating Dilemma'. The disorientating dilemma challenges a person to rethink their trajectory, goals and values. This kind of experience can occur in a novel environment while experiencing new things far beyond a person's manner of doing things. This can easily occur during travelling. While travelling, for the most part, is associated to be a positive experience, it is also true that it can log up a collection of negative experiences that could fulfil the conditions necessary to experience the disorientating dilemma.
According to Tourism researchers, Garrett Stone and Lauren Duffy, travel is a very potent way to disorient one's worldview, however as they state, not all travel is created equal. The more a person is around people unlike themselves, the more likely it is for them to experience the disorientating dilemma and thus more likely to find a paradigm shift or a mental breakthrough. Stone and Duffy suggest that the more immersive and extended the experience, the more a person and their worldview will be disrupted, thus the deeper the transformation and the longer lasting its effects will be.
These types of experiences will effectively change someone as a person, and one may realise that their current goals are no longer a person's present desires or 'wants'. It will be the stepping stones to allow transformations to persist and continue forward and from there an individual can restructure their environment and facilitate a new identity and set of goals. Considering the importance of these life-changing elements, Emora Limited has incorporated travel into the incentives and rewards offered to their workforce to help them expand their horizons and become more inspired as individuals and motivated to succeed.
