"Young people and young at heart will hopefully partake in protecting what is quite literally our life support system...with a healthy ocean we can have a healthy future." - Fabien Cousteau
LONG BEACH, NY, September 13, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Fabien Cousteau, the world renowned oceanographic explorer, conservationist and documentary filmmaker is pleased to announce that his non-profit organization, The Fabien Cousteau Ocean Learning Center ("OLC") will join forces with The City of Long Beach, NY on Saturday, September 16th, 2017, for a fun filled, productive beach cleanup event in honor of the Ocean Conservancy's "International Ocean Cleanup Day." The event is being held in alliance with the American Littoral Society, Surfrider Foundation, SPLASH Long Island, All Our Energy and SkudinSURF.
Come join Fabien and his friends as we gather together to rid our beach of litter and plastic this Saturday September 16 from 10:00AM to 12:00PM at the Long Beach Boardwalk (corner of Magnolia Blvd). All ages are welcome!
As Fabien's grandfather, Jacques-Yves Cousteau often said, "People protect what they love, they love what they understand and they understand what they are taught."
At the United Nations Headquarters this past Saturday, there was a special screening of "Wonders of the Sea," a 3D film that Fabien has made with his father Jean-Michel Cousteau and his sister Celine. During the event, Fabien briefly addressed the audience and urged them to take those words of his grandfather to heart:
"How can you protect the ocean if you don't know anything about it..If you are not in love with what you are protecting...young people and young at heart will hopefully partake in protecting what is quite literally our life support system...with a healthy ocean we can have a healthy future."

Did you know:
Within the next few decades, the chemistry of the tropical oceans will not sustain coral reef growth while large parts of the polar oceans will become corrosive to calcareous marine organisms.
Ocean acidification, along with warming surface waters, may reduce the ability of the ocean to absorb CO2, leaving more CO2 in the atmosphere and worsening its impact on the climate.
Land-based sources (such as agricultural run-off, discharge of nutrients and pesticides and untreated sewage including plastics) account for approximately 80% of marine pollution, globally.
And the list goes on....
