"In times of extreme stress, like the hurricane survivors are facing, we must fortify ourselves with prayer, needed nutrition and rest to counter act the negative effects of the stress."
DALLAS, TX, September 26, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Debra Peek-Haynes may be best known in the Dallas community as the first lady of the southern Dallas megachurch, Friendship West Baptist Church, but she is also a wellness advocate with a mission of healing the Dallas community and America as a whole, one meal at a time. As host of the radio segment, "Let's Talk Health", bestselling author, "The Beginners' Guide to Healthy Living" and founder and CEO of Debra's Healing Kitchen, Debra Peek-Haynes travels the world teaching about healthy-living and conducting demonstrations on how to cook delicious, healthy soulful food, especially in communities of color, where obesity and poor nutrition contribute to high mortality rates.
On Saturday, September 30th from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at Juanita Craft Recreation Center, 4500 Spring Avenue, Dallas, TX 75210, she will open her healing kitchen to the Dallas/Ft. Worth Community for a healthy cooking demonstration, prizes, food samples and fun for the whole family.
Sponsored by Larry Allen, Sr. State Farm Agency and Texas Capital Bank, Cooking with Debra: Food for a Healthy Soul will feature healthy breakfast and lunch ideas for even the pickiest eaters, meal options and food ideas for those battling health ailments such as diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressures and tips for those going vegan because of the popular documentary, What the Health? "You must know your health status," said Peek-Haynes. "If you are in good health, you can take gradual measures, but a chronic or threatening illness calls for an immediate change in dietary habits."
Debra's Healing Kitchen will also donate a portion of the proceeds to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts, something she and her church have been very committed to, with Friendship West Baptist Church contributing more than $90,000 to relief efforts to date. Debra Peek-Haynes also wants to extend a personal invitation to any of the hurricane survivors currently in North Texas.
"In times of extreme stress, like the hurricane survivors are facing, we must fortify ourselves with prayer, needed nutrition and rest to counter act the negative effects of the stress," said Peek-Haynes. "While I realize they are facing a multitude of serious issues, it's more important than ever to take care of your nutritional health."
Cooking with Debra: Food for a Healthy Soul is open to the public. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the door.
