CHICAGO, IL, October 12, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- This year's American Society for Healthcare Risk Management 2017 Annual Conference, scheduled for September 15-18 in Seattle, will feature a panel discussion of healthcare patient safety experts who will explore how better use of data can improve patient safety in healthcare. The event, "What's your Datatude? Bringing the Organizational Organism into Homeostasis," will take place at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 17.
This year's event builds off the highly successful inaugural panel discussion held at the 2016 ASHRM Annual Conference, during which a maximum-capacity audience left with real-world strategies for reducing preventable patient harm. The Datix panel discussion is rapidly becoming a must-see event at the annual ASHRM conference.
The focus of the 2017 panel discussion is on improving the evaluation of big data to uncover and implement the most-effective patient safety strategies. The goal is to create organizational memory through data capture, data review, and, eventually continuous learning.
The 2017 panel discussion will be hosted by Dr. Geri Amori, and feature Dr. Karen Zimmer, Robert Hanscom, Kathy Shostek, and Karen Garvey, all of who will share strategies for using data to improve patient safety.
- Geraldine Amori, PhD, ARM, CPHRM, DFASHRM, is the vice president for academic affairs for Coverys, located in Boston. In that role, she provides direction for Coverys' education services and oversees professional development and education programs for healthcare provider organizations and consumer organizations nationally.
- Karen Zimmer, MD, MPH, FAAP, is a consultant in the areas of health information technology, patient safety, and quality for non-profit organizations, health information technology companies, and government agencies. She has more than 25 years of combined healthcare, patient safety, and quality experience with a focus on process improvement and strategic planning.
- Robert Hanscom, JD, is the head of analytics and reporting at Coverys. Hanscom also spent 14 years at CRICO, the medical malpractice insurance captive for the Harvard Medical Institutions, leading its Loss Prevention and Patient Safety Department and serving as head of CRICO's external data consulting division, CRICO Strategies.
- Kathleen Shostek, RN, ARM, BBA, CPHRM, DFASHRM, CPPS, is Vice President of Health Care Risk Management at Sedgwick, a global provider of technology-enabled risk and benefits solutions. She is an industry-recognized patient safety and risk management professional with more than 25 years of experience. She provides consultative services to improve and enhance risk management and patient safety programs, with an emphasis placed on risk reduction techniques and innovative approaches to improve patient safety and reduce preventable harm.
- Karen Garvey, DFASHRM, CPPS, is Vice President of Safety and Clinical Risk Management at Parkland Health & Hospital System. She is highly experienced in patient safety, clinical risk management, and compliance across all levels of healthcare. Garvey has attained a Patient Safety Leadership Fellow designation from the Health Research and Educational Trust and was nominated as one of the Dallas- Forth Worth "Great 100 Nurses" for 2017.
