SAN DIEGO, CA, October 14, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Borrego Springs Community is elated with the construction of a new library, park and Sheriff Station in their town! This project was funded by the County of San Diego, with local contributions through the Friends of the Borrego Springs Library, and land donor Bill Wright. BN Builders and RNT Architects were awarded the design/build contract for the project, located just south of "The Mall", at the southwest corner of Country Club Road and Sunset Street, adjacent to the new Community Park which is included in the project. The existing Borrego Springs Library is in a 3,787 square foot leased facility. It has been a vital part of the community since its establishment in 1949. The new library will be approximately 13,500 square feet, more than 3 1/2 times larger, with many amenities and technological features that did not exist in 1949 when the original library was opened!
Since the groundbreaking ceremony for the library coincides with the Borrego Days Festival and Parade on October 21 and in keeping with the community spirit so important to BN Builders, BNB has entered a float in the Borrego Days Parade. Co-sponsoring the float are Tail is Up Foundation, an animal welfare non profit that is raising funds for the dog park aspect of the new park, and Borrego Springs Unified School District. The float will have a representation of the library, with Borrego Library Branch Manager, Tonya Gadbois, on board, along with representative students from the school district. In a flatbed trailer pulled by the "Library Truck", will be a representation of the Dog Park, complete with dogs!
Martha Deichler, School Community Liaison for BSUSD, said of the joint venture, "BSUSD always enters its float into the Community Spirit Category [of the parade] and it only seemed natural that we would join forces with three fabulous new features in our community: the new library, community park and dog park! All of these benefit our students, their families and the quality of life in Borrego Springs."
When asked what she felt the impact of this project would be for the Borrego Springs community, Martha replied, "What we have longed for, and now are excited to have, is a spectacular park with amenities and a library to bring pride to the community. Our Borrego Springs Library and Park will most certainly become the heart of Borrego Springs. We are building a better community together - including a dog park!!"
Immediately after the parade, the groundbreaking ceremony will be held at the site of the library construction. There will also be a special tree planting by BSUSD students and BN Builders nearby at the site of the new park.
Tail is Up Foundation will also have a booth at the two-day festival. For sale will be T-shirts with the theme, "Building a Community...together!" on the back. Proceeds from T-shirt sales will go to enhancements for the new dog park. Also for sale in the booth will be signed copies of San Diego County Department of Parks and Recreation's new book, Images of America-San Diego Parks over 100 Years. There will also be a model of the new library to check out and information on the project. And dogs. There will be dogs!
Come out for the parade along Palm Canyon Drive on Saturday October 21 at 10 AM and stay for the festival at Christmas Circle, which runs from 10 AM - 5 PM Saturday and Sunday October 21-22!
