Global Concepts Charter School hosts Brazillian Delegation of 21 Educators

    BUFFALO, NY, October 18, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- On November 12th, a Brazilian delegation of 15 schools, represented by 21 educators responsible for 60 thousand students visited Global Concepts Charter Schools in Lackawanna as part of their US tour of educational facilities. Global Concepts Charter was the first charter school on the tour sponsored by Humas-EAD and Liaison America. There are multiple reasons that a charter school would be of interest to the Brazilian educators. One, charter schools such as Global Concepts do more with less and are run similar to private schools. In Brazil, there is tremendous inequity when it comes to public v. private education. Director of Humus-EAD, Sonia Simoes Colombo explained, "private schools [in Brazil] are the desired choice for Brazil's families" because the college preparation is superior to what the public schools can possibly offer. Getting accepted at one of the countries' best Colleges (which are free) requires early education institutions to fiercely compete for the best students and the best practices.

Dr. Paul Kenneson from the education department at St. Bonaventure University helped arrange the tour at Global Concepts. She commented that the delegation "was amazed at the Disneyesque feeling of the K-8 building. The decorations and wall murals were stunning. The fact that the band was practicing and they stopped everything to play a spontaneous song for the delegation was pleasantly unexpected." At the high school tour, Dr. Kenneson praised the "endearing and welcoming" students and faculty saying that Global Concepts was one of the highlights of their world tour.

Global Concepts Charter C.E.O. Tracy McGee was up to the task of explaining what a charter school is to the delegation through a Portuguese interpreter. He identified the challenges that charter schools and explained to the delegation it is possible to "do more with less." The tour of Global Concept Charter School District's four buildings showed in detail how it is possible for educators to use tremendous creativity and empowerment to deliver quality education. Mr. McGee used the example of the school's curriculum. "Teachers driving the curriculum creates a better work environment and buy-in with the school's overall mission. The proof is both in the test results and from the character of graduates who have gone on the do great things in the community. The result of the Brazilian delegation tour will result in an exchange program with the working title "Global Connects." Students from Global Concepts and students from the Brazilian schools will be holding classroom teleconferencing in an effort to prepare students today to be leaders of tomorrow.

Global Concepts Charter School in Lackawanna NY has entered their third charter renewal and was recently recognized by U.S. News as one of the best High Schools in the United States. Global Concepts Charter school began as a K-5 elementary school in 2001, then added the Middle School, the High School, and the Ruben Santiago-Hudson Performing Arts Center.
