Pivot CPAs' Managing Partner Honored as a Jacksonville Ultimate CEO

Peter Reynolds Recognized for Business Growth, Leading Firm Through Rebrand and Focusing on Community Service

Most people think of a company as projection of its leaders. At Pivot, it seems to be the opposite: we are a company that projects its staff.

JACKSONVILLE, FL, October 23, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- On October 14 during a ceremony at Everbank Field, the home of the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars, the Jacksonville Business Journal recognized 12 area business leaders as innovative, transformational and impactful to their companies and to the market. Peter Reynolds, Managing Partner for Pivot CPAs (www.pivotcpas.com) was recognized as one of four in the mid-sized company category (those with revenues between $10 and $50 million. The Business Journal selects its "Ultimate CEO" recipient based on leadership, company growth and community involvement. Other recipients in the mid-sized category include Nelson Bradshaw of BBVA Companies, Rory Diamond of K9-s for Warriors, and J.Peter Wilking of A1A Solar.

In his remarks, Business Journal Managing Editor Timothy Gibbons lauded Reynolds for his leadership in growing the firm by 45 percent over the last five years, but more so for leading the firm through a distinctively creative re-branding process as well as developing a culture that promoted a work-life balance and deep-rooted community involvement. Pivot, formerly The Griggs Group, was renamed in December of 2016 to Pivot CPAs, featuring the tagline, "Beyond Accounting."

Said Reynolds, "It is not often that the CEO of an accounting firm is even put in the position to earn such accolades. Accountants by nature stay in the background, so it was a fun challenge to take our team through this process." The process included a series of focus groups with clients, former clients and employees, all helping to identify the core mission of the business. "We learned that our clients see us not just as skilled accountants who can make their numbers add up, but as a true business resource. To a person they all said we play a more pivotal role than we maybe even gave ourselves credit for. The name "Pivot" was born out of those conversations."

Taking part in the community is something that has always run deeply through the team at Pivot. In fact, nearly every one of Pivot's 40 personnel is either involved with or sits on the Board for non-profit groups. From the Boys & Girls Clubs of North Florida to Daniel House to Dreams Come True, Pivot personnel are active in more than 30 organizations. "This all comes from a culture of serving," stated Reynolds. He continued, "This is still a small community, and a wonderfully supportive one, and we want to be part of that. It's important to us as people not just as business people."

During his acceptance address Reynolds gave the credit to the Pivot staff, his business partners, family and clients stating, "A good leader takes his or her cues from those around them, and is open to being led and to creating leaders from within. Most people think of a company as projection of its leaders. At Pivot, it seems to be the opposite: we are a company that projects its staff. We care about our clients, we care about each other, we care about our community. I can't teach or lead that. We are all grateful for having clients and staff that trust each other. I am personally grateful for being surrounded with great business partners and staff who are all rowing in the same direciton, not to mention a family who barely sees me from January to April."

In the accompanying Business Journal profile about Reynolds, he is refered to as "not your typical accountant" and Pivot is given credit as not being a typical accounting firm. Underscoring the point, and receiving perhaps one of the bigger laughs of the presentation, Reynold commented, "Undergoing a rebrand creates change, requires creativity and can be expensive...not things with which an accountant is usually comfortable."

Reynolds is comfortable, however, with making good business decsisions on behalf of the firm and its clients. "That is always the constant challenge, making sure I am doing things the right way and not just my way." With a firm that was also just listed as the largest locally-owned accounting firm in the market and has recently expanded into Nocatee and Gainesville, Reynolds appears to have the firm set on the right course.
