We are passionate about causes and how our business can be a platform for accountability in fashion, and lower the environmental impact of salon waste.
LONG BEACH, NY, November 16, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- How does a visit to the salon to get your hair and make-up done, equal saving the planet? For these three friends, former co-workers and now the owners of a hip new salon in Long Beach, The Chop Shop, it all naturally goes together. Kayla Jacobson, Christina Martin and Prisha Szachacz, had a dream of starting a salon together for almost 10 years. They have combined their artistic talents in hair and makeup into the labor of love of being "green" business owners, and giving back. The Grand Opening will take place on Saturday November 18, 2017, the public are invited to stop in and discover all the benefits of this "Green Salon."
However, being "green" doesn't mean sacrificing style. Hair salons have long been criticized for the pollution created from the by-products of traditional dyes, and chemicals found in many shampoos. It is a movement that is spreading across the nation, and now Long Island will have its very own salon featuring an eco-friendly hair care line from Davines, as well as other sustainable product lines.
The Grand Opening event will include refreshments, raffles and door prizes featuring styling tools, products and services, as well as other great gifts from local boutiques, studios and restaurants. "We are going to have a fun time meeting our new customers and introducing our highly-skilled stylists and make-up artists to the community," says Kayla Jacobson. The Chop Shop will offer an array of beauty and salon services including color, cutting, formal styling, extensions and makeup. "Our goal is to provide a high-end experience in a comfortable and laid back atmosphere," explains Christina Martin.
During the Grand Opening, fundraising for the organization Beauty Against Bullying (BAB), a fashion production organization reshaping society's "standard" of beauty, will also be happening. "We are passionate about causes and how our business can be platform for accountability in fashion, and lower the environmental impact of salon waste," states Prisha Szachacz.
As a member salon, of Green Circle Salons--Making Beauty Sustainable, The Chop Shop will be part of the movement of pioneering truly sustainable solutions for repurposing, recycling and capturing 95% of salon and spa waste from entering the environment. The Chop Shop will also incorporate green changes such as LED lighting, renewable energy systems, organic tea and coffee, eco-friendly cleaning products and will operate water saving faucets that save on consumption.
The exciting part is that hair collected in special recycle bins, will be completely repurposed! Through the collection program at The Chop Shop, hair will be used to make oil spill booms as it is extraordinarily effective at removing oil from water. The booms are made and stored off-site at Green Circle, and then donated when a spill happens. Other uses include stuffing for animal beds created for displaced animals. In addition to hair, everything is recycled from used paper, foils, and color waste. "This works with our salon's vibe of being positive, happy and beautiful, for all living beings," offers Jacobson.
Grand Opening location: Saturday November 18th from 12-4PM at The Chop Shop, 166 East Park Avenue, Long Beach, NY 11561 (516) 705-4718
The Chop Shop is the next generation of "green" salons to mix beauty and an eco-friendly approach to hair and make up styling.
