"Lack of usable test results from more than half of the 51,914 fatal crashes drivers call into question the validity of National estimates of drug and DUI involvement. " A Crancer, Researcher
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, December 08, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Thousands of the test results were never performed or were incompletely reported to the National FARS data base.
NHTSA's latest 2016 Summary of Alcohol-Impaired Driving, DOT HS 812 450, made no mention of the lack of useable DUI test results for most of the drivers in fatal crashes.
"How long will the Government wait to make testing for drugs and alcohol mandatory for all drivers in fatal crashes? Until then, we will never know the true level of this major driving risk for Americans." - P Drum, Pharm D
A high level - 27% - showed an alcohol impaired driver at twice the legal limit (BAC 0.16 or more). For drugs, 40% of the usable tests displayed drug presence in the at-fault driver.
