Young Classical Conductor Proves Game-Changer in Colorado

The Dawning of Elliot Moore

"Great music is not always about being the smartest guy in the room; it's about diversity, inclusivity and celebrating our shared humanity."

LONGMONT, CO, February 14, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The magic of a maestro's baton remains a mystery to most. Many conclude that great symphonic music is somehow unapproachable, or still reserved for society's elite. But for young conductor, Elliot Moore, the new music director of the Longmont Symphony Orchestra (LSO), the exclusivity and rarified atmosphere once associated with classical music is yesterday's news. "Great music is not always about being the smartest guy in the room; it's about diversity, inclusivity and celebrating our shared humanity," Moore said with his trademark zeal. In Moore's inaugural 2017-18 season with the Colorado based LSO entitled "New Frontiers," the symphony is featuring music by two world-renowned local composers: the 2016 Pulitzer Prize finalist in music--Carter Pann, and Longmont-based composer and Fulbright-Hayes Fellow, Michael Udow. Udow's World Premiere "Mountain Myths" is part of a diverse, multi-faceted concert slated for Saturday, February 24, at 7:30 P.M., located at the Vance Brand Civic Auditorium. The program includes the Saint-Saens' Cello Concerto No. 1, featuring celebrated young cellist, Matthew Zalkind. In an already ambitious evening, Moore will conduct Tchaikovsky's epic Symphony No. 4, in which the composer expresses his triumph over fate. Tickets are available online at http://www.longmontsymphony.org or by calling 303.772.5796. The Vance Brand Civic auditorium is located at 600 E. Mountain View Ave., Longmont, CO 80504.

In his new post, Moore is bringing community participation to the LSO in unprecedented numbers--and filling the symphony's concert venues. Whether speaking at local schools, businesses, clubs, or the local diner, Moore is on a mission to insure that rallying the entire community to engage with the orchestra is a number one priority. As to Moore's unique approach, his mentor, the hailed conductor Kenneth Kiesler, with whom Moore apprenticed has this to say, "Elliot bubbles with the love and enthusiasm he has for music and every step of the conducting process. He is a person you can count on. He means what he says, is real and authentic. He invests his heart and soul in everything he does."

Moore, who has two master's degrees in music, and earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in conducting at the University of Michigan, says, "There is an amazing buzz around town about the symphony. The community seems to be very inspired and I couldn't be more thrilled. At the end of the day, we hunger for food, water and a communal sense of being."

Robert Pilkey, LSO's Board President, summed up Moore's impressive early contributions this way, "Elliot is a passionate entrepreneur of ideas, and most importantly, people. He is creating exciting performances and educational programs designed to appeal to our diverse and growing population. Serendipity smiled on us and we couldn't be more excited about the future."
