I am continuing to investigate the neglectful behavior by the school and now the YMCA which led to the sexual assault against these young children
JEFFERSONVILLE, IN, March 02, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Karl Truman Law Office announced on Thursday that founder and principal attorney Karl Truman has filed suit against the YMCA of Southern Indiana, Inc.; Greater Clark County School Corporation (GCCSC); and Michael Begin. Begin, who worked in the early childhood development program at Clark County Family YMCA in Jeffersonville, is already facing more than 20 criminal child molestation charges.
In this latest lawsuit, Truman is representing a young girl who was enrolled in an afterschool program at the YMCA where Begin was working. Truman filed suit earlier this month against Begin and Greater Clark County School Corporation on behalf of another young girl who has accused Begin of sexual abuse.
According to documents the Karl Truman Law Office filed with Indiana's Circuit Court No. 1 of Clark County, "[Begin] was assigned by ... GCCSC to work as a teaching assistant at the premises of the ... YMCA." The lawsuit states that the YMCA and school officials "were negligent in failing to protect Plaintiff while she was in the afterschool program" with Begin, who was left unsupervised.
"I am continuing to investigate the neglectful behavior by the school and now the YMCA which led to the sexual assault against these young children," Truman said. "The information I am learning about the conduct of the school and the YMCA is very disturbing. We will know more as the court process continues."
According to WDRB 41 Louisville News, Begin is accused of molesting 17 children while working at the YMCA and as a teaching assistant at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School.
Truman is seeking unspecified damages on behalf of the families in both cases. In the press release for the original lawsuit, he said he aims to "seek justice for the young girls" who suffered sexual assault as a result of the failure of the YMCA and the school to protect them
"Children should be able to feel safe at school and in community centers like the YMCA," Truman said. "But it is the responsibility of leaders at the institutions to supervise adults who work with kids."
