"With the somber content of my work, I intend to pay tribute to the victims as well as bring awareness to their suffering," says Bernardo Vallarino, Artist.
FORT WORTH, TX, March 15, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- If you do not know who Bernardo Vallarino is, you need to. Vallarino is a Colombian-American mix media sculptor and installation artist currently residing in the Fort Worth area that has been selected as one of the three judges of the Art on a Can Contest Box Office Warehouse Suites announced the summer of 2017.
Through his work and extensive resume that include solo and juried exhibitions as well as teaching experience, Vallarino was contacted with the opportunity to be part of the Graffiti and Street Art Festival in Fort Worth as a judge. Vallarino has worked alongside two other judges to review all participant applications, and picking five final finalists to paint their murals on the side of the converted shipping container business buildings. He will be overseeing the creation of the murals from beginning to end, and work with his team of judges to choose the grand prize winner. The grand prize winner will be announced on March 17, 2018.
Bernardo graduated from Texas Christian University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in sculpture, and furthered his experience and knowledge at Texas Woman's University, receiving a Masters of Fine Arts in Sculpture. His inspiration comes from careful observations he views as hypocrisy that exists between the rhetoric of human life value and the violent behavior of humanity. When describing his work and influences, Vallarino says, "In my work, I explore themes of human suffering, violence, abuse of power, politics, control and hypocrisy. These topics are all part of a larger social commentary regarding the disposable manner in which human life is treated. Around the world individuals are seen and treated as disposable, expendable or despised especially in times of armed conflicts. I describe this disregard for human lives by overlaying the perceived worth of the others to that of vermin; human lives terminated with the same lack of thought and empathy. In addition to this metaphorical association, insects and entomology also inspire elements of anonymity, plurality, scale and identification. With the somber content of my work, I intend to pay tribute to the victims as well as bring awareness to their suffering." Vallarino is also a member of the Fort Worth Art Collective and volunteers his time as a board member for different non-profit organizations.
Bernardo will be in attendance at the Graffiti and Street Art festival to announce the grand prize winner, giving locals an opportunity to get to know him and his art a little better.
