Huntsville Law Firm Names Winners of 4th Annual Driver Safety Scholarship Competition

    HUNTSVILLE, AL, May 05, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Huntsville personal injury law firm of Morris, King & Hodge P.C., today announced the three student winners of the firm's 2018 Driver Safety Scholarships.

"It is our honor to congratulate the three scholarship winners and everyone who participated in the competition," said Joe A. King, a partner at the firm. "We appreciate their efforts to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving, and we feel fortunate to support a promising academic future for the three winners."

The car accident attorneys at Morris, King & Hodge represent people who have suffered injuries or lost loved ones due to distracted driving and other careless behavior. To help prevent these accidents, the firm sponsored a Distracted Driver Scholarship Program for the fourth consecutive year.

The law firm awarded a total of $4,200 in scholarship money in a competition that was open to Alabama high school seniors and rising freshmen at Alabama colleges and universities.

This year's winners are:

• First Place $2,000 Scholarship – Jordan Jett, a senior at Lawrence County High School in Moulton. Jordan plans to attend the University of North Alabama to prepare for a teaching career.
• Second Place $1,200 Scholarship – John Washington, a senior at Hazel Green High School in Hazel Green. John plans to pursue a business marketing degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
• Third Place $1,000 Scholarship – Sidney Gunter, a senior at Huntsville High School in Huntsville. Sidney plans to attend the University of Mississippi and major in chemical engineering.

Entrants wrote well-researched essays or video essays on this topic: "How can we educate our community about the dangers of distracted driving and what are some practical ways we can drastically reduce distracted driving related accidents?"

The firm selected the winning essays from a total of 48 applications.

"Our firm believes in the power of higher education to fulfill life goals for young people and help them pursue rewarding careers. It is our honor to provide financial assistance to these talented, compassionate and deserving students."

Morris, King and Hodge, P.C. has shown longstanding support for driver safety initiatives in the community. The firm has spent more than $100,000 to date on public initiatives targeting distracted driving and traffic safety including WHNT's Distracted Driving Project, the Madison County Sheriff's free Distracted Driving classes, the Taxi & Tow Service and MADD's Victim Help Line.
