SAN FRANCISCO, CA, July 10, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- In 2016 in the US, 81% of marijuana positive fatal crash drivers also had alcohol present, and 26% were DUI. In Colorado, one of the first recreational use marijuana states, 98% of marijuana positive fatal drivers were drinking, and 36% were DUI along with marijuana positivity.
Nationally, marijuana positive fatal crash drivers are commonly 10% less than fatal crashes with DUI drivers (18.2% vs. 27.0%). However, in Colorado, which approved recreational marijuana in 2012, marijuana positive fatal crash drivers are nearly equivalent to DUI fatal crash drivers (28.4% vs. 28.9%) were marijuana positive of those tested for drugs.
