Q: What Does it Mean for Your Company to be Voted by Consumers as your City's Best?
A: Being recognized by Consumers Choice Award has been both a humbling surprise and a wonderful barometer of some really hard work we've accomplished over the past 5 years. Knowing that an independent survey, analysis & adjudication of both us and our competitors resulted in our award really tells us that we are on target for providing the best educational and experiential value for our industry in Waterloo region!

Q: What is it About Your Company You Feel Sets You Apart From Your Competitors?
A: I really think a combination of factors has resulted in Our developing several unique features. First and foremost, we view the student as a real person with feelings and emotions. This sounds intuitive, but you'd be surprised in our industry how kids are sometimes treated. We know it takes bravery for a child to walk out on stage and perform in front of others, or to try something new or to find their voice. Our method acknowledges that kids can be uncomfortable, learn differently than others and at different rates. We know that kids in their early years have developmental milestones that they are experiencing.

Move With Grace uses positive motivation in a fun-loving environment and promote the enjoyment factor of dance and movement as well as forming lifelong friendships and memories. Students are smart and can retain the real names of movements both in English and in French so we do not modify the terminology, they learn the real content. The Instructors must have a proven track record of the highest quality teaching and really actually like kids. At Move With Grace, it is about the students, not the teacher or owner...it is why over our door it is about Grace and not the "Miss Robyn School of Dance".

There are of course the parents we need to address as well. We really work on good communications, clear pricing that is "all inclusive" so you know what you are paying for wit no surprises. We make sure the parents are always informed and can see the process.

Q: How Will Winning This Award Affect the Work You Do Moving Forward?
A: Well, it isn't an invitation to kick back and say "that's it we've done it!" In fact, we believe in CANI - constant and never-ending improvement! Our aim is to continue to be recognized, and if anything, this becomes the baseline, that means the standard needs to be even better! We always look for ways to deliver more value to the client, make these kids smile a bit more and feel a bit more confidence and pride.

Q: What is the Biggest Risk You Have Ever Taken in Business?
A: Expanding our studio to its current 10,000 sqft location. The expense was huge, but our growth demanded it. Since moving, however, we now host some great industry events, like being a teacher training centre for Acrobatic Arts, or International Dance Teacher Standards. In fact, Team Canada Tap trains in our facility now, it's a real feather in the cap!

Q: Businesswise, What is Your Next Big Step?
A: We are undertaking some big customized technologies to improve the customer experience at Move With Grace, with our studio App, multimedia and online content. We're working on next level stuff that our competitors just do not have the infrastructure to do. I'm sure they will after it is launched, but that is part of being innovative and the leader in dance education in both Cambridge and Waterloo Region.

GETTING TO KNOW ROBYN TEDESCO:
My Business Motto is... Building confidence in kids through dance in a loving supportive environment giving them a sense of belonging purpose and pride.

What I Like the Most About My Job... The satisfaction I get from seeing joy and pride on my students faces is a privilege. Seeing the confidence building as they discover their new skill, get the step, or take the stage it is wonderful...we are blessed.

Recently I Learned... How many kids are impacted by what we do. I get calls from students i taught many years ago, one recently saying thank you because her dance gave her the confidence that she could do anything she put her mind to. Applying to a very difficult and exclusive program at University, accepted and soon to be a neurosurgeon. How cool is that!?

My Biggest Success is... Turning my passion and art into this reality of Move With Grace and sharing it with others!

If I Could Own One Word in the Mind of My Consumers, it Would be... Trust

My Biggest Mistake... Taking a few years to figure out that value is far more important than price.

Daily I Always Try to... Accomplish 5 steps to my next goal.

During My Spare Time I Like to... Enjoy my three amazing kids and hilarious husband!

In my iPod You Will Find... Lot's of the best 80's tunes! I'll break into choreography in the supermarket when I hear a song like "What a Feeling!" Kids love that :) LOL
