Floridians Prepare for Peak 2018 Hurricane Season

Ged Lawyers, LLP, Premier South Florida Disaster Recovery Firm Recovers Maximum Compensation for Hurricane Victims

BOCA RATON, FL, September 09, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The peak of the hurricane season has arrived, and Floridians – many of whom are still recovering from the devastation of last year's season -- are taking measures to prepare. The hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, according to the National Hurricane Center, part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The Administration advises hurricane preparedness measures, including: determining your risk, developing an evacuation plan, assembling disaster supplies, checking insurance policies, strengthening your home, and helping your neighbor.

"Florida witnessed ten hurricanes in 2017, causing massive devastation," said C. Glen Ged, founding partner of Ged Lawyers, LLP, in Boca Raton, Florida. "And while homeowners' policies can provide protection against damage that is sustained in a hurricane, many Floridians didn't receive the compensation they deserve."

According to the National Ocean Service, when a tropical storm's maximum sustained winds reach 74 mph, it is classified as a hurricane. These destructive winds and heavy rains can cause storm surge flooding, inland flooding, and devastating property damage. It is important to understand the terms of homeowners' policies and the protections they provide.

"Insurance companies often act in their best interests, disputing or denying claims without justification," added Attorney Ged. "Our experienced disaster recovery attorneys have been helping hurricane victims for more than 20 years, aggressively fighting insurance companies and successfully recovering millions of dollars for our clients. In fact, Ged Lawyers obtained $65,000 for one Hurricane Irma victim who was initially offered only $7,000 by their insurance company."

The legal timeframe for filing a property damage claim in Florida -- known as the statute of limitations – is four years from the time the damage occurred. If the claim is not filed within that four-year window, the case will be dismissed and no compensation can be recovered.
