Dr. Michael Savin is Honored by Executive Publishing

    DALLAS, TX, September 14, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Michael A. Savin is a native of San Francisco, CA and has fond many memories of his childhood in the Sun Valley. He was embraced by love and observed how others showed genuine concerned for one another. As a child, he recalls the family doctor who made house calls and remember shadowing him on weekends that perhaps was the initial spark of interest in the field of medicine. After high school, he was invited to join a group of trainees under the wings of Dr. Arthur Selzer, a cardiologist, and was fortunate to observe firsthand the heart surgeon at work. It was conceivably this pivotal moment in time that Michael knew that his destiny was on the platform of medicine rather than on the stage of a rock band.

Dr. Savin is a highly trained and esteemed oncologist with over 40 years in practice and expertise in the areas of hematology, oncology and breast cancer. His educational background includes graduate study at the University of Pittsburg School of Medicine (1969) with his subsequent internship and residency (1973) at Duke University Medical Center. His fellowship in Hematology (1975) was at the University of Washington.

Dr. Michael A. Savin is certified by The American Board of Internal Medicine in Medical Oncology (1977), Hematology (1976), and Internal Medicine (!974). He is also licensed to practice in the states of California, New York, Oregon and Texas.

Dr. Savin has worked in private practice settings in Dallas, Texas for over 29 years, treating patients with blood disorders and a variety of cancers. While he continues today to treat patients with many kinds of cancer, a major part of his practice has been in the care of people with breast cancer.

Dr. Savin is an amiable doctor whose greatest satisfaction comes from getting to know his patients and their families. He says, "There is a very special and unique bond that develops between physician and patient when dealing with serious illnesses. I can't imagine another profession that would let me know so well and care for people of such diverse backgrounds."

Dr. Savin currently serves the clinical medical director of the Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) Knight Cancer Institute. As an active clinical researcher for many years, Dr. Savin has worked in the design of clinical trials and management of a large clinical research program in a private practice setting. He developed a breast cancer chemotherapy regimen and helped design the clinical trials leading to its acceptance as one of the standard treatments to help prevent recurrence of the disease. Dr. Savin also enjoys sharing his knowledge while serving as a full-time faculty member at OHSU School of Medicine.

On a more personal note, Dr. Savin enjoys spending time with his wife, Dr. Juliette Wait, a pulmonary physician, and their two sons, daughter and grandchildren. Dr. Savin undeniably loves music. As a child, he studied the violin and attended a music camp to discover his advancement was on a different level. Nevertheless, his love for the string instrument and music never died. He enjoys playing the guitar – whether it is acoustic, electric or folk and is an avid fan of live music and the opera.
