SAN FRANCISCO, CA, November 19, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- One concept continues to dominate the conversation about hiring in the 21st century, especially in the tech industry: work-life balance. As a leading software development agency based in Northern California specializing in application development, web design, and search engine marketing, Spiral Scout is no stranger to finding effective ways to foster a balanced work environment for its employees.
"From the beginning, we knew we wanted to take steps to prevent burnout, low productivity, and high turnover," said Spiral Scout's CEO, John Griffin. "To stay competitive and attract the best talent, however, we also knew that we needed to take things a step further than our standard PTO packages with 25 vacation days a year plus 12 sick days and national holidays."
Inspired by a friend whose company had every other Friday off during the summer, Griffin discussed the idea of doing this year-round for the Spiral Scout team with his co-founder and CTO, Anton "JD" Titov. In late 2017, "FriYays" was born giving employees an additional 26 paid days off a year.
Naturally, this new policy was risky because there were no real strong data points to back up how well it would work. It was completely unheard of in Belarus, where Spiral Scout's development office is located, and even in the U.S., there are only a few companies doing something similar. Fast forward one year and the results are astonishing.
Not only do all employees take advantage of "FriYays", but the company as a whole has seen employee retention jump up to 96 percent and the number of sick days taken plummet by over 6 percent. Productivity in the form of billable hours has skyrocketed both as business has grown but also as employees have become more efficient.
Griffin shares, "Employees are more balanced and motivated with their work and schedule. They are laser-focused on their projects and get more done during the work week because they know they have a 3-day weekend coming up. Each Monday they return to work more charged and ready to jump back in. The change is so evident that several clients have even reported the team's output has gone up."
