"don't tell my bride, but I plan to run 10 miles on my 70th birthday."
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, December 18, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A prominent Healdsburg area real estate broker with Sotheby's International has recorded his 110,000th running mile. Michael Fanelli began tracking his daily running log as a fourteen year-old high school cross country athlete in his hometown of Philadelphia in 1970. Fanelli, a Sonoma County resident since 2002, has competed in more than 1,000 long distance running races and rarely misses a day...even when sick or injured. "It's a lifestyle, not a chore," the 62 year old realtor says. "I run daily as a fuction of training to compete, not to collect miles. The mileage recordation is a subset of that activity," Fanelli opined.
The 5' 9", 148 pound runner has tallied enough miles to circumnavigate the globe four times. "I hit 100,000 miles in November of 2012" Fanelli said, "these past 10,000 have been a little slower and taken a little longer than the preceding 10,000." Fanelli, who won the San Francisco Pacific Rim Marathon in 1988 and 1989, has competed at distances ranging from 400 meters to 100 miles, and once even ran a race around Lake Tahoe. "That 72 miler was brutal. I was going for the record but 'hit the wall' just after 30 miles and just before a 5 mile long incline. The final 40 miles took every ounce of positivity that a mind could muster...but we survived." Fanelli credits a lifetime vitamins routine, healthy eating, lifting weights, regular deep tissue massage, and a daily hot Epsom salts bath, for keeping him in motion for so long. "It takes an incomprehensible amount of discipline, focus, concentration and good self-talk to do what I do. I like to think that those traits transcend sport and show up in my daily life, professionally and otherwise."
When asked about his plans for covering the next 10,000 miles, the luxury real estate agent winked and said, "don't tell my bride, but I plan to run 10 miles on my 70th birthday." The energetic Mr. Fanelli lends brand new meaning to the word 'milestone'.
