Founder of Self-worth Initiative Encourages Parents to Talk to Their Girls About Self-worth During New York Fashion Week

New Character in the Animal Fashion World Shares the Message of QUILL POWER

"A mom recently told me that her five-year-old was being picked on because of her size. We need to start celebrating body positivity, even at a young age," said Weed.

SINGER ISLAND, FL, January 24, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- With Spring's New York Fashion Week right around the corner, Feb. 8th - 16th (Women), Deborah Weed, the Founder of the Self-worth Initiative wants to shine a spotlight on empowering little girls to have self-worth. Since 75% of all young girls have low self-esteem [Real Girls, Real Pressure: A National Report conducted by Dove Self-Esteem Fund], it's the perfect time to talk about what inner beauty really means.

"So many girls are being bullied because of what they wear," said Weed. "A mom recently told me that her five-year-old was being picked on because of her size. We need to start celebrating body positivity, even at a young age."

In 2011, the Italian Fashion Industry banded together to restore well known historical sites in Europe. Tods pledged 32 million to restore the Colosseum, Fendi pledged 3.2 million for the restoration of the Trevi Fountain, etc. "My dream is to see American Fashion Icons collaborate to remodel the way the next generation of girls sees themselves," said Weed. Until then, Weed has created a brand and character, in the animal fashion world, who can do just that.

In an effort to help parents talk to their girls about self-worth, Weed has written and illustrated Paisley's Last Quill, a wildly imaginative picture book that shares the power of believing in yourself in a fun and vibrant way. "Paisley is a porcupine in the animal fashion world, who gives her power away (quills). A bully Diva sets out to diminish her worth. It is only when Paisley is down to her last quill, that she discovers that it's impossible to lose her inherent talent, spunk, and creativity," said Weed. "Reading this story with your girls, then asking questions about how they see themselves, will give you an unfiltered look at their inner dialogue."

Weed sees Paisley as the Ambassador of QUILL POWER! She's a character who can speak to kids on their level about what makes them worthy. The Self-worth Initiative has been doing focus groups for Paisley Teas', where girls from 3 - 103, share their wisdom, participate in a creative DIY making quills, while inspiring each other. "Porcupines use their quills to protect themselves. Paisley knows that believing in yourself is the antidote to bullying," said Weed. Paisley and her story, will be arriving in style on January 29, 2019, just in time for NYFW. To learn more visit, http://www.selfworthinitiative.net
