SIMI VALLEY, CA, May 31, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Shattuck-St. Mary's of Faribault, Minnesota, announces today that it will bring its renowned academic, arts and athletic curricula to Southern California by opening a new college preparatory school beginning in the fall semester of 2020.
The school will be in Simi Valley, California with several sites presently under consideration. The founders are currently planning for an all-male private independent Catholic high school and are working with the Archdiocese of Los Angeles to implement the plan. The school is expected to serve a total of 400-450 students. For the inaugural 2020-21 school year plans are to enroll ninth and tenth grade only.
As a college preparatory school, Shattuck-St. Mary's (SSM) has a stellar academic reputation, that includes a blend of Advanced Placement and Honors courses and a rich array of arts and co-curricular offerings. SSM is nationally recognized for its unique inclusion of "Centers of Excellence" (CoE) in academics, athletics and arts giving its students unbridled opportunities to pursue their passions.
The success of SSM Minnesota led to the establishment of Shattuck-St. Mary's Educational Services, which enables regional and global expansion of the SSM mission, which includes the Shattuck-St. Mary's - Forest City school in Malaysia, and today, a third school in Simi Valley, California. Nick Stoneman, the President of Shattuck-St. Mary's says, "We are thrilled to bring our college preparatory curriculum to Southern California and hope to positively impact the community through our focus in bioscience, engineering and other STEM disciplines, alongside athletics and the arts."
On its Minnesota campus, SSM has a well-established hockey CoE, and will have hockey serve as one of the initial CoE's for the Simi Valley campus. CAHA, as the State's governing body, requires the development of hockey teams across AA, A/BB/B levels before being able to seek approval for a new AAA team. SSM, with its deep commitment to player development, welcomes the opportunity to work within the CAHA model. To this end, SSM will be partnering with the Ventura Mariners' youth program to create a true feeder program with B, A and AA teams that will support the aspiration for a AAA team at the new SSM California school. As Paddy O'Donnell of the Ventura Mariners says, "We are thrilled to partner with Shattuck-St. Mary's given its exemplary reputation for excellence in both academic and hockey development."
The Ventura Mariners association will be hosting tryouts for the 16U AA, 14U AA and 12U AA teams June 7-9. For more information about tryouts please contact Paddy O'Donnell via email, [email protected].
